Environmental pollution is the release of environmental contaminants, generally resulting from human activity.
Carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides produced by industry and motor vehicles are common air pollutants.
Arguably the principal source of air pollutants worldwide is motor vehicle emissions, although many other sources have been found to contribute to the ever growing problem.
Principal stationary pollution sources include chemical plants, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, nuclear waste disposal activity, incinerators, large animal farms, PVC factories, metals production factories, plastics factories, and other heavy industry.
Pollutants can cause disease, including cancer, lupus, immune diseases, allergies, and asthma.
Adverse air quality can kill many organisms including humans.
Motor vehicle emissions are one of the leading causes of air pollution.
Principal stationary pollution sources include chemical plants, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, petrochemical plants, nuclear waste disposal activity, incinerators, large livestock farms (dairy cows, pigs, poultry, etc.), PVC factories, metals production factories, plastics factories, and other heavy industry.
Some of the more common soil contaminants are chlorinated hydrocarbons (CFH), heavy metals (such as chromium, cadmium--found in rechargeable batteries, and lead -- found in lead paint, aviation fuel and still in some countries, gasoline), MTBE, zinc, arsenic and benzene.
Ordinary municipal landfills are the source of many chemical substances entering the soil environment (and often groundwater), emanating from the wide variety of refuse accepted, especially substances illegally discarded there, or from pre-1970 landfills that may have been subject to little control in the U.S.
or EU.
Pollution can also be the consequence of a natural disaster.
For example, hurricanes often involve water contamination from sewage, and petrochemical spills from ruptured boats or automobiles.
Larger scale and environmental damage is not uncommon when coastal oil rigs or refineries are involved.
Some sources of pollution, such as nuclear power plants or oil tankers, can produce widespread and potentially hazardous releases when accidents occur.
Adverse air quality can kill many organisms including humans.
Ozone pollution can cause respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, throat inflammation, chest pain, and congestion.
Water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day, mostly due to contamination of drinking water by untreated sewage in developing countries.
Oil spills can cause skin irritations and rashes.
Noise pollution induces hearing loss, high blood pressure, stress, and sleep disturbance.

Microsoft Launches Office365 In India
CRN Network, June 29, 2011, 1700 hrs
Microsoft has commercially launched Microsoft Office365 in India. Available in various configurations, the cloud offering is available for $2-27 per user per month, and is targeted toward SMBs and enterprise customers.
“Microsoft Office365 provides all of the enterprise class productivity solutions on a flexible payment model, delivering streamlined communication with high availability, comprehensive security, and simplified IT management. Customers who have already started using the services are realizing savings from reduced hardware, software, and operational costs,” said Sanket Akerkar, Managing Director, Microsoft. “Currently, the cloud services for Microsoft Office365 are managed in Singapore and Hong Kong, but we would develop the resources in India to comply with the Indian laws.”
Microsoft Office365 would be available in different packages. At approximately $6 per user month, the Office365 plan for small businesses (with 25 users or less) includes Office Web Apps, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online. For larger organizations, plans start at $2 for e-mail, and $27 per user per month for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Lync Online, and an option of Office Professional Plus desktop software along with Office Web Apps.
Customers can purchase Office365 suite directly from the Microsoft Website and pay the subscription fee to Microsoft regional sales office in Singapore. However, the involvement of a Microsoft online partner is mandatory to complete the process. Microsoft Office365 will also provide significant opportunities to partners who will sell, customize and provide consulting, migration, and managed services for Microsoft online services to Indian SMBs.
“The potential concerns of the partners regarding pricing undercuts and customer relations have been duly taken care of by including them in the purchasing process. Partners will be provided an upfront commission of 12 percent for the first year of subscription and six percent for second year onwards for subscriptions on the same account. At the same time, partners will also be providing services for various requirements of the customers. We are also looking forward to increase the current size of more than 750 Microsoft online partners,” said Sanjay Manchanda, Director, Microsoft Business Division, Microsoft India.

Today, `Virtual Reality` is used in different ways and often in a confusing and misleading manner. Jaron Lanier, founder of VPL Research (1989) was the first man to term `Virtual world or Artificial world` as `Virtual Reality` (VR). This was followed by other related terms such as `Artificial Reality` by Myron Krueger, 1970s, and `Cyberspace` by William Gibson, 1984. And currently, this is known by the name of `Virtual Worlds` and `Virtual Environments`. Besides this, virtual reality also got popularized by the movie The Lawnmower Man and research in Virtual Reality reached its peak in 1990 with the help of non-fiction book Virtual Reality by Howard Rheingold.
HMD device consist of two miniature display screens and an optical system. These two components channel the images from the screens to the eyes, presenting a stereoscopic imaging. Others use a single larger display to provide higher resolution, but without the stereoscopic vision.
The CAVE is an immersive virtual reality facility designed for the exploration of and interaction with spatially engaging environments. Basically, the CAVE`s comprises of four projection surfaces on which images are projected with uniquely immersive design. In addition, including projection on the ceiling gives a fuller sense of being enclosed in the virtual world. Furthermore, projection on all six surfaces of a room allows users to turn around and look in all directions. This allows user to interact with world in ways never before possible, which is necessary for full immersion.
