In an exclusive interview with Freshersworld.com, Pradeep talks about his journey from a student at IIT to a successful entrepreneur.
Freshersworld.com: You are one of the pioneers of Digital marketing in India. Please tell us about your journey, from your days at IIT Delhi till now.
Pradeep: I started my career as Software Engineer at TCS in 1999. I resigned from TCS in 2000 Sep to join a Top Consulting Firm in US. While I was waiting for my visa, I met two of my batchmates in Delhi and decided to start our own venture. That’s when Whizlabs Software was born.
Since then I’ve been part of Internet Industry as user at Whizlabs, then service provider (when I founded OMLogic in 2007) and now Educator at Digital Vidya . Here is how I describe myself today - “Engineer by Education, Entrepreneur by Profession and Digital Marketer by Passion!”.
Freshersworld.com: You have said that the Internet connectivity is more important than the water supply. How relevant is this statement with reference to India.
Pradeep: This statement as part of my profile is more for fun. Nevertheless, the way ‘Water’ is our lifeline to stay alive in physical world, ‘Internet’ today is the lifeline to stay alive in the Business World.
Freshersworld.com: Facebook was started to connect students in campuses. Now it connects more than 500 million users worldwide. Do you think it can help freshers in job hunting? How?
Pradeep: Absolutely. We ourselves have found couple of people, who are working with us through Facebook. At Social Media platforms like Facebook, one has an opportunity to understand the true personality (actions, thoughts, relationships etc) of other person. LinkedIn take it to the next level by adding ‘more professional’ angle to one’s personality.
Freshersworld.com: My friend got a job offer from a company based in Canada when a manager from that company saw his blog. Do you think blogging can help freshers add more value to their profile?
Pradeep: Provided, they are consistent in writing on their blogs. I don’t think even 1% of the people continue to write on their blog beyond few weeks. The key reason is that they don’t write in an area of their passion and don’t have required patience. ‘Passion + Patience’ in my view are critical to be successful in blogging.
Freshersworld.com: Your advice to entry level graduates (freshers) in India?
Pradeep: Embrace Social Media for reasons beyond socializing, gaming; see how can you use these mediums to solve real life problems. That’s how Facebook, Orkut etc came into existence. You are best placed to adapt and evolve with this medium.
Freshersworld.com: Thank you so much Pradeep for your time and valuable advice to freshers.
