About Company
The Barrackpore Municipality has been set up in 1916 under the then Bengal Municipal Act. Its population, as per the Census Report, 2001 is 1.44 lakh with an area of 10.16 sq. km. The number of House Hold is 31,715 having 4.5 persons per house hold. The entire municipal area has been delimitated into 24 wards.The Municipality is administered by an elected Board of Councilors headed by the chairman who is also aided and assisted by Chairman-in-council Comprising 4 members including the Vice-Chairman, apartment from the paid management. Over the years this Municipality of a historic town has grown into an institution for Urban Development within its area of operation. For its spectacular performance, it has been adjudged as the best municipality in the state. This civic body has been fully computerized since 1995 and has introduced Double Entry System of Accounts. It has always been endeavoring to generate more and more non-tax revenue for taking up development work at its own. It has introduced Citizen Charter committing time-limit for providing every municipal service to the citizens & the stake-holders.
