MBAs in finance outperform their peers in other areas

Bangalore: In terms of high career growth, students of Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in finance and consulting, outperforms their peers in other functional areas. As per a study, average salary for MBAs in finance is about 20 percent higher than their batchmates in IT industry.
"Top performers in finance do much better than top performers in sales and marketing, systems or consulting, even though the difference in average performers is not that much," Tarun Matta, founder of iimjobs.com, told Business Standard. The findings based on a study by iimjobs.com, a job portal for MBAs from IIMs and premier business schools, has prompted that the difference is witnessed for people with over 5-6 years of experience. The average salary after the required experience is about Rs.18.5 lakh in the finance area. "Those in IT, however, get an opportunity to travel the world and earn in dollars/pounds, making up for the lesser salaries while in India," said a respondent who has been working with a large IT MNC since the last five years.
The survey was conducted during April 7-15, 2009 on over 3,800 MBA graduates from the top 15 business
schools including the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Indian School of Business (ISB), Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Management Development Institute (MDI), SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) and Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS).
