President's Note

When I started working on this portal, I really didn't know where it was going to lead or exactly what information would be included within it. My goal was to provide a reliable source of information to people like you, who are about to graduate and graduated from college and are starting looking for a job or launch a career. The obvious thing to do when you're in this situation is to start sending out resumes, just like everyone else, and hope for the best. Being armed with the right information, however before starting this process will mean the difference between getting yourself just any odd job that may lead nowhere and finding your ultimate dream job that will allow you to pursue a productive, successful, and extremely enjoyable career.

I know from firsthand experience that the job search can be a very confusing, frustrating, and intimidating time in someone's life. After all you're going from the structured and sheltered environment of education, and probably for the first time in your life, you're being forced to make decisions that will impact the rest of your life. Now that's pretty intimidating, especially if you have absolutely no clue about what type of career you want to pursue. Despite what you've been told by educators, your parents, your friends, and others, if you're thinking that you have to "find yourself" before choosing a career, that's pretty normal. Very few people graduate from institutes with a passion and a career path already laid out. With little or no experience in the business world how are you supposed to make the right career decisions that will impact the rest of your professional life? The answer: Proceed with caution and don't make hasty decisions - make educated decisions. Even if your parents are "well connected" and are friendly with many successful business people, chances are you won't have the opportunity to sit down with too many of them in- person and get some serious career advice. From this site you will get answers to some of your job related questions, and at the same time, you'll receive extremely practical and useful advise from people in the know .

Unfortunately, there are neither no easy answers nor an exact series of steps that you can follow in order to get yourself a job and launch your career. What you can find in this site is information on what you expect at each step in the job search process.

Let's face it, not everyone is cut out to be a President, CEO, a founder of a multi million-dollar company. Even if you don’t have aspirations to be a top level executive, you're probably going to find that the information in this site will help to inform and inspire you towards success, in whatever it is that you choose to pursue. When you begin your job search, your goal is to get yourself a job and to begin your career (duh). Don't settle just for just any job offer that comes along, and don't let anyone force you into accepting a job that you don't think you'll be happy and productive in. This may mean going against the advise of people you love and respect, but in the end, it's your life, and you have to make decisions that will allow you to lead your own life, make your own mistakes, and achieve your own success.

Just because you have a college degree, even if it's from a top-notch Ivy League Institute, nobody awes you anything. If you're not willing to put forth the effort to get yourself a great job and then succeed in that position, then it's nobodies fault but your own if you wind up in a boring, dead-end job. Sorry, but that's how the real world operates, and if you go into the real world understanding this, you've got a much better chance for success. What ever you do, never give up and don't settle. To get yourself a great job, you've got to be informed, persistent, dedicated, and have a passion for whatever it is that you want to do. Sure, an education is critical, and previous work experience (internships, summer jobs, part-time jobs, etc.) will be helpful, but there are many very well educated people who wind up in dead-end jobs. This site serves you with the knowledge you'll need to help you avoid failing into a career path that leads to misery.

Now all you have to do is read it and follow at least some of the advice that's offered. If you happen to find one of the interviews, or a specific piece of advice, to be exceptionally useful as you begin your job search, please drop me a note via e-mail, and let me know what information was particularly helpful.     Goodluck and may all your Dreams and Goals come true!
