J.N. TATA SCHOLARSHIPS


J.N. Tata Endowment Loan Scholarships are offered for higher studies abroad in Technology, the Sciences and the Humanities. Selected scholars will also qualify for the scholarships.

Eligibility : Applicants should be graduates with an academic record of conspicuous distinction from an Indian University of recognised standing. Those who are in the final year of the degree course are also eligible. However, their selection will be conditional to a good performance at the final degree examination. Academics and Professionals in Medicine, Law and other fields as well as Officers of the I.A.S. and other Executives, with creditable academic records, going abroad for specialised qualifications, may also apply. Special weightage is given to students from the under privileged sections of society, especially from the rural areas. Candidates are expected to have applied for admission to Universities after when they apply for the Loan Scholarship. They may be interviewed before the admission comes through but, their final selection is subject to their securing admission.

Eveready Welfare Services invites applications for Scholarships from Indian nationals in advanced educational in Management, all branches of Engineering and Electro-Chemistry at reputed institutions in India Eigh
t scholarships each of a maximum Rs. 10,000 per annum are proposed to be awarded for upto 4 years of study (depending on the duration of the course).


Eligibility :

  1. First class academic record throughout the career.

  2. Firm admission in the first year of a reputed Indian University/Institute for Graduate/Post Graduate studies as full-time student.

  3. The combined gross income of both the parents not to exceed Rs. 90,000 per year.

  4. Not a recipient of any other scholarship/financial assistance.

K. C. MAHINDRA SCHOLARSHIPS


K.C. Mahindra Education trust offers Interest-Free Loan Scholarships to Indian Na
tionals for Higher Education abroad in various fields for advanced studies in Engineering, Natural Science, Humanities, Medicine & Business Management including the study of Military, Naval and Aviation Sciences. The maximum amount of scholarship payable to any scholar shall not exceed Rs. 70000/-.

Applicants for these scholarships are required to satisfy the following conditions:

  • They must possess a First Class degree or an equivalent diploma of the same standard from a recognised Indian University.

  • They must have secured admission or at least have applied for admission in reputable foreign Universities for courses commencing from September but not later than February. . Candidates studying in the Final Year of the degree or diploma courses are also eligible to apply provided they produce their final year Certificate before end June. Government and Quasi Government Officers with a creditable academic record, going abroad for specialised qualifications are also Eligible to apply.

Preliminary applications should be forwarded to the Managing Trustee K.C. Mahindra Education Trust, Cecil Court, 3rd Floor Mahakavi Bhushan Marg Mumbai 400001 along with 25cms x l8cms self-addressed envelope with Rs. 2.00 postage stamps affixed. The prescribed application form is sent only to those candidates who are considered to have the requisite qualifications as stated above.

Last date: February. Prescribed application forms duly filled in by the applicants together with necessary enclosures must reach the Trust Office before the specified date in March. The final selection of the candidates will take place in the 2nd week of July and the interview date is intimated to the selected candidates during second week of May.

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF WELFARE


Passage Grants

18 travel grants are offered for India at postgraduate, research, training level.

Subject: There is no restriction with regard to subject.

Eligibility: The passage grants are awarded to candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, De-notified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes. Only those candidates, who are already in receipt of a scholarship from a foreign government/organization or under any other scheme, where the cost of passage is not provided, will be eligible to apply. Applicants should possess a Master's or an equivalent degree in the Arts or Science subjects and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical or Medical subjects. The income limit of parents/guardians or the applicant himself/ herself is fixed at RS. 5,000 per month for eligibility of the award.

NATIONAL OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIPS


60 scholarships are offered for to students at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Research/Specialized training level.

Subjects: The scholarships will be awarded in subjects for which suitable facilities are not available in India. Preference will be given for Automation and Robotics, Laser Technology, Naval Architecture/Offshore Structures, Paper Technology, Printing Technology, Reliability Engineering

Eligibility: The scholarships are awarded to candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, De-notified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes. The income limit of parents/guardians or the applicant himself/herself is fixed at Rs. 5,000 per month for eligibility of the award.

Age: 35 years.

Value: US $5,940 per annum for the Bachelor's degree .US$6,600 per annum for the Master's and PhD degrees US $7,700 per annum for Postdoctoral research/Training.

15-20 travel grants offered for India in the form of interest free loans for academic study or research for not less than one year.

Eligibility: Graduates who have secured admission to a foreign University and have obtained an assistantship or scholarship, which will cover his/her entire expenses abroad inclusive of tuition fees.

INLAKS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS


About the Inlaks Foundation

The Inlaks Foundation was created by Mr. Indoo Shivdasani in 1976 and registered as a charitable trust in Liechtenstein. Mr. Indoo Shivdasani was the son of a member of the Indian Civil Service. He, his father and many other members of his family were educated both in India and in the UK. After Cambridge, rather than following in his father's footsteps, he became an entrepreneur, setting up his own business. Within a few years his business had worldwide interests in agro-allied industries finance, industry and trade. He considered his Cambridge education as having been paramount in breeding his productive and cultural life and believed therefore in the importance of higher education overseas for the young for developing their vision and their capacity to operate in society and contribute to the changes. The Foundation concentrates mainly on providing scholarships to outstanding young people, to develop their professional, scientific, artistic or cultural abilities abroad. Each year 10-15 people are sent overseas either to leading institutions or to carryout specific projects the Foundation prides itself on offering scholarships in a wide range of subjects many of which are not covered by other fund-giving bodies. The Foundation also operates a grants scheme in India (Take-Off Grants) on the charitable side, Inlaks Foundation contributes to or operates a number of medical and social projects.

The Foundation is managed by a Board of Trustees. The Director, who is also a Trustee, acts as Chief Executive and operates jointly with the Executive Committee. The Head Office of the Foundation is in London. The Foundation also has an office in Delhi.

The capital, which, at the time of Mr. Shivdasani's death amounted to $1.3 million, has since been increased through further donations and appreciation and is now $10.9 million. It is managed by independent financial institutions under the direct control of the Board: part of the income is returned to the capital to defeat inflation, and part distributed to its activities.

Courses of Study

Courses at Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, Imperial College of Science & Technology in any available subject. Placement at these institutions will be made by the Foundation.
Graduate courses at American and European institutions in such subjects as Architecture, Business Administration, Communications (Films, Television, Journalism) Special Education and Law. Candidates must have obtained admission before applying.
Course in Fine Arts (Royal College of Art), Applied Arts and Conservation, Design and Fashion Design, Theatre and Dance, Music and Composition (Candidates must have obtained Admission before applying, except at the Royal College of Art).

Specific Projects Proposed by the Candidate

Research, Training or professional improvement to be carried out abroad either independently, or at a leading institution. Candidates are expected to provide full details of proposed programs, costs, evidence of agreement with, and admission to, such institutions. Preference will be given to projects relevant to the Indian situation.

Medical Fellowship
Specialist training at leading hospitals for a period of up to 12 months, in the UK, for qualified and experienced junior Doctors, employed permanently in recognized hospitals in India.

Selection Criteria The selection in made by an independent Selection Committee on the basis of written applications followed by a number of personal interviews. The criteria are:

Potential and self motivation
The candidates must show enterprise and the capacity to make an impact on one's environment, the drive to transform ideas into reality and the ability to take full advantage of all aspects of their experience abroad.

Achievement and evidence of initiative
The candidates must provide evidence of abilities in addition to academic achievements. They must show that they have already played a prominent role in some field such as the Arts, Communication, Debating, Journalism, Social Work, Sports, Technology or the Theatre (These fields need not necessarily be related to the proposed course). Age and opportunities available will be taken into consideration. Scholarships will not be awarded to candidates whose proposed course of study or specific project require field trips to India during their tenure.

  • Suitability of proposed course.

  • The candidates will be assessed on the value of their proposal not only to their own career but on the contribution they will be able to make subsequently to their country and to the environment.

Scholarships are open to all Indian citizens of either sex who hold a good degree from a recognized university and are resident in India at the time of application. They must be below 30 years of age on the date of application, and single.

Medical fellowship candidates should be below 35 years of age on the date of application, who hold a good degree from a recognized university and are resident in India at the time of application.

Where admission to an institution is required prior to application, the institutions concerned must be of top rank only. Preference will be given to candidates who have not yet studied abroad. Applicants for MBA and Engineering should have at least two years working experience. The award of other grants, teaching assistantships and support from other sources for the proposed program will be regarded by the foundation as a positive factor. The Foundation encourages applications also from young people who are currently employed.

Candidates are advised to consult the relevant university be prospectus before applying. They are also advised not to submit their application unless all requirements have, been fulfilled.

Application Procedure
Application forms can be had during June/August from Inlaks Foundation, PO Box 2108, Delhi 110007. They must be completed and returned between July 20 and August 30 and must include:

  • Evidence of age

  • Evidence (attested) of courses taken and degrees, Honors and other academic distinctions obtained. These copies will not be returned.

  • Evidence of admission to any university or course if, other than Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, Imperial College or Royal College of Art.

  • In the case of specific projects, full details and budgeted costs. Candidates in Architecture, Fine Arts, Applied Arts and related subjects must submit twelve color transparencies, of recent creative work, in a plastic folder giving the size of the original, the material used and the date completed. This material will not be returned.

  • Candidates for Film, Dance and Acting must submit videocassette VHS, which will be returned.

  • Candidates for music should submit a tape.

  • Two self-addressed stamped, (Rs. 2.00) envelopes (4" x 9")

Applications are assessed in September and October each year. The Final interviews take place in December. All applicants must be available for Interviews in India. Tenure of scholarships The scholarships cover return travel, tuition fees and adequate living expenses for the period of grants. Tenure of other scholarships, teaching assistantships and part time jobs are permitted. The scholarships are not awarded to anyone who has already started a course of study or a project abroad.

These scholarships are offered to students at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.

Subject: Scientific, Technical, Industrial and Commercial instruction or Education.

Eligibility: Undergraduate studies: students who have passed the Secondary or Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination.

Postgraduates: Applicants who have a graduation degree and uniformly excellent academic record.
