Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) invites application for the position Chair Of Exellence
Objectives:
i. Identify the technological inventions including the soft technologies, machineries and equipments in different areas of forestry management in the India and in other countries.
ii. Study the present practices in the country, identify the gaps and suggest possible areas /technologies/ machineries/equipments, etc., for utilisation in forest management.
iii. Identify areas and research/extension needs in the subject for developing and disseminating technologies considering specific requirements for the country.
Scope of Services, Tasks (Components) and Expected Deliverables:
i. To study the present practices in the country and that of other countries in various areas of forest management with regard to the use of technologies (including soft technologies, machineries and equipments).
ii. To suggest the areas/fields for utilisation of these technologies adopted in India and in other countries.
iii. To analyse the cost benefits of utilisation of these technologies over the present practices.
iv. To study the mechanisms for adoption of these technologies including analysis of the patenting rights, import and manufacture, cost of adopting of the technologies, etc.,
v. To suggest possible areas of research in the subject including research on the site specific requirements of the country.
vi. To document all these aspects of the study and bring out a publication (online and hardcopy) for use of various stakeholders in the country.
vii. Develop outreach/training material and organise training/workshops on the subject.
viii. Provide specific academic inputs to FRI Deemed University students on the subject.
ix. In addition to the above, the Chair may also be assigned any other tasks related to the subject matter.
Essential Qualifications:
i. Forestry research/ academic professionals with doctorate and 15 years of experience in relevant field OR (ii) Masters with 15 years of service in Indian Forest Service out of which a minimum of 5 years experience in forestry research/ academics
ii. Publications in reputed national & international journals.
iii. Experience in successful national/international level project formulation/ management/ implementation/ monitoring.
iv. Experience of working with Govt. of India organization and networking with Government/Non Governmental national and international organizations.
Desirable Qualifications:
a) National/International recognition in relevant field.
b) Member/fellow of various national & international academic councils/bodies.
c) Experience in modern scientific techniques including GIS & IT based solution.
The person appointed to the chair will be Indian national.
Honorarium And Facilities:
i. The remuneration to be paid to the chair shall be in the form of chair fellowship.
ii. The amount of the fellowship shall be a consolidated amount of Rs. 80,000/- per month. Taxes etc. shall be deducted as per prevalent rules of the Government of India.
iii. The fellowship shall be paid by the ICFRE (HQ).
iv. Subject to availability, accommodation may be provided to the chair in the hostels/campus on usual payment of fees.
v. The chair shall be allowed travelling expenses as per ICFRE Rules.
vi. The chair shall be provided office space and secretariat assistance by the Directorate of Extension
Review: The progress/performance of the work, assigned to the chair shall be reviewed by a Review Committee constituted in this respect.
Arbitration:
i. In case of any dispute, DG, ICFRE shall be the sole arbitrator.
ii. All the disputes arising out of the provisions of these guidelines or otherwise shall be subject to Courts with jurisdiction of the Headquarters of the Chair.
Age Limit: The person applying for the position of chair shall not be more than 65 years as on 31/01/2021.

The Government of Mysore had set up a Forest Research Laboratory (FRL) at Bangalore in 1938. In the initial years, work was carried out mainly on properties and uses of different timber species, essential oils, other non-wood forest products and protection of wood and trees from pests and diseases. In 1956, this laboratory was organised as a regional centre of Forest Research Institute and Colleges, Dehra Dun. In 1977, Sandal Research Centre was set up to undertake research on wide-ranging aspects of genetics, silviculture and management of sandal, a valuable tree well distributed all over Southern India.
