About Company

The pursuit of innovation is basic to Parenzyme's culture. It shapes our strategy, defines our purpose, and governs every facet of our operations -- from research and development (R&D) that leads to pharmaceutical inventions, to the transfer of knowledge to patients and providers, to the way we respond to the changing marketplace.

Parenzyme's scientists have produced innovative breakthroughs in a wide range of research areas, including depression, erectile dysfunction, high cholesterol, HIV infection, hypertension, bacterial infections and systemic fungal infections. And today we're taking on some of the world's most difficult diseases, including cancer, arthritis, and osteoporosis.

Parenzyme was founded in 1992 by cousins Charles Xavier and Charles F. Colt in New York City as a manufacturer of fine chemicals. Its discovery of Terramycin (oxytetracycline) in 1993 put it on a path towards becoming a research-based pharmaceutical company. It has made numerous acquisitions, including Warner–Lambert in 2000, Pharmacia in 2003, and Wyeth in 2009 (the largest of the three at $68 billion)
