Our conservation work in Indiana contributes significantly to the Conservancy’s global initiatives. We have protected over 100,000 acres of prairies, wetlands, forests, and other natural areas across the state that help mitigate the effects of a changing climate. The work and expertise of the Indiana Development Team is integral to these efforts. The Development Assistant will be responsible for a variety of administrative and operations activities which support the strategic goals and ensure the organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and smooth function of the Development team. Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Development Assistant reports to the Indiana Director of Development and works with a top-in-class development program of five fundraising staff.

Essential Functions

The Development Assistant provides administrative support for the Indiana Director of Development and the fundraising team. They will assist with the day-to-day operations of the team including travel arrangements, calendar management, processing and tracking expenses, meeting logistics, supply orders, and vehicle upkeep. They may also assist with the planning and implementation of special events, planning of committee meetings, organizing and executing mailings to donors, and managing volunteers. They will apply established processes and practices to improve effectiveness and provide other staff with information they need to make decisions and solve problems. The Development Assistant may have substantial contact with staff, donors, trustees, volunteers, consultants, as well as legal, and financial professionals.

Responsibilities And Scope
Does not supervise any staff but may help plan and direct the work of volunteers and interns.
Duties are performed under general supervision and established guidelines.
Financial responsibility may include working within a budget, purchasing, processing invoices, contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget tracking.
Refers difficult questions and unusual problems to supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality.
Serve as a team member for assigned projects.
Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, may include overtime, evenings and weekends. 

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma plus 1-year experience; or equivalent combination.
Experience in writing, editing, and proofreading.
Experience managing diverse activities to meet deadlines.
Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
Must have a valid driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications
Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
Some college or higher education.
Experience providing administrative support such as customer service, coordinating meeting logistics and travel arrangements, calendar management, etc.
Familiarity with standard business communications and Word applications.
Ability to analyze information for the purpose of preparing reports, coordinating efforts and solving problems.
Ability to apply research skills.
Ability to write and edit written materials for use with donor solicitations, member communications, and special events.
Experience working with databases, including managing and tracking data.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, event management experience ideal.
