POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:The Director, Media Relations will be responsible for developing and implementing publicity plans and programs to create positive media coverage for the company in four major areas: product, business opportunity, brand and image. 
This position will develop communication support including key collateral materials, as well as the creation and delivery of proactive reputation-enhancing communications campaigns. The Director, Media Relations  will partner directly with sales and marketing management, scientific teams, government relations teams, marketing teams, HR and regional communications leads on a regular and frequent basis. 

  • Actively seek opportunities to position the company in a positive light with target audiences
  • Plan and manage communications projects that further business goals, working with internal departments/external agencies and hiring and managing freelancers who contribute to projects, keeping within department budget parameters.
  • Produce original written communications, such as press releases, feature articles, announcements, news briefs, white papers, etc. to a very high standard. Edit materials produced by others for internal and external publication.
  • Produce a range of materials such as position statements, Q&A and briefings for executives, managers, Members and staff as required.
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of a communications data repository to include press packs, executive bios, photography, industry/company data points.
  • Responsible for producing regular media analysis and update reporting.
  • Support Corporate Communications colleagues in other regions through the provision of specialist skills/knowledge.
  • Reasonable travel and some weekend working will be required  


  • Skills:Strong storytelling and media skills as well as the capability of building and maintaining relationships with important third party endorsers
  • Excellent oral and written communications skillsKnowledge and understanding of mainstream and social media as well as the role they play within the communications mix
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to operate at all levels within an organization
  • Ability to function as a team member and build strong relationships, both internally and with external vendorsFlexible and able to react positively to challenge and change
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent business acumen and problem-solving skills
  • Creative and passionate
  • Ability to work some weekends and travel 10% of the time. 
  • Experience: 10+ years’ experience in PR / communications in a corporate setting or combination of corporate and agency settings
  • Agency/vendor and project management, including writing and presenting briefs 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations or related field
