Job Description
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
Scholarship/Assistantship for Post-graduate Programs: To avail the financial assistance (scholarship/assistantship), the candidate must first secure the admission to a program in one of the central government supported institutes, by a procedure that could vary from institute to institute. Depending upon the norms adopted by a specific institute or department of the institute, a candidate may be admitted directly into a course based on: his/her performance in GATE only; or based on his/her performance in GATE and an admission test/interview conducted by the department to which he/she has applied and/or the candidate’s academic record. In the test/interview based selection procedure, as per the MHRD guidelines, a minimum of 70% weightage will be given to the performance in GATE and the remaining will be given to the candidate’s performance in test/interview and/oracademic record. However, the admitting institutes could prescribe a minimum passing marks in the test/interview.

Eligibility for GATE 2018 :

- M. Sc./ M.A./MCA or equivalent Int. M.E./ M.Tech. (Post-B.Sc.)
- Int. M.E./ M.Tech. or Dual Degree(after Diploma or 10+2)

- Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B. Arch.)
Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: i) must have completed or are in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 4 years) in Engineering/Technology or; ii) must have completed or are in the final year of their Post Graduate (Master's) degree (duration: at least 2 years) in any relevant subjects in science.

Selection Process :
- The Selection Process consists of marks obtained (out of 100) in the corresponding paper of GATE 2018, Group Discussion & Personal Interview.
- Eligible candidates will have to appear for the corresponding paper of GATE 2018, i.e. Electrical Engineering (EE)/ Electronics and Communication (EC) / Civil Engineering (CE)/ Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)

Service Agreement Bond : The selected candidates will be required to execute a service agreement bond to successfully complete t he prescribed training period and thereafter serve the organization for at least three years. The amount of the bond is INR 1,00,000/- for General/OBC (NCL) candidates and INR 50,000/- for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

GATE 2018 Registration has been started from 1st September 2017. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an national level entrance exam for admission to PG courses in the field of engineering and technology. Candidates can get admissions into M.Tech./Ph.D. programmes in IITs , IISc, IISERs and other reputed institutions through GATE score. Every year, GATE is organized by the seven zonal IITs and an IISc on rotational basis. This year, GATE exam is conducted by IIT, Guwahati. Apart from granting admission, the score of gate exam is also considered as one of the criteria for recruitment to government and private organizations working in technical fields. GATE 2018 Admit Card: Admit card can be downloadable from the GOAPS website. It will not be sent via email/post. The successfully registered candidates will be able to download the GATE 2018 admit card on 5th January 2018. With the printed copy of admit card, students also need to bring one identification proof to the examination hall.
ID proof may be any of these: Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar UID, Valid College ID, Employee identification card or Driving License. From international students, only valid Passport/ Government issued ID/College ID/ Employee ID will be accepted as ID proof.
GATE 2018 Answer Key: GATE 2018 answer key will be released by the authority after the completion of exam. It is expected that the exam will end in the second week of February 2018. The authority will provide the answer key separately for each discipline. Answer key challenge facility will also open on payment of a nominal fee.
GATE 2018 Result: GATE 2018 result will be published on the GOAPS portal of GATE website. Result is likely to be announced on 17th March 2018. After the declaration of result, GATE Score cards will be available for the candidates who secure marks equal or more than the cut-off marks.
GATE 2018 Score Card: The qualified candidates are provided with a GATE score card which has the validity of three years from the date of announcement of result. GATE 2018 score card reflects the candidate’s performance in entrance test. The facility to download the score card will be available from the last week of March 2018.
GATE 2018 Cut Off:GATE Cut off marks will decide the candidate’s eligibility for admission to IITs and IISc. It is the factor which decides whether candidates is qualified in exam or not. GATE 2018 cut off marks varies stream-wise and category-wise. The cut-off marks for reserved category candidates are primarily low than the unreserved category candidates.
GATE 2018 Counselling:No common counselling will be conducted by IITS for providing admission to PG courses. Students have to apply individually to the IITs when the admission notification will be released. NITs organizes the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech. / M.Arch./ M.Plan. Admissions (CCMT). It is the common counselling conducted by NITs every year. Counselling is purely based on GATE 2018 scores.
