Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) invites application for the position Project Associate I
Title of project: Hindon Roots Sensing (HiROS): River Rejuvenation through Scalable Water and Solute Balance Modeling and Informed Farmers' Actions
Sponsor of the project: DST, New Delhi
Project position(s) and number: Project Associate I - 01 (for initial two years and will be converted to Project Associate-II if the performance is acceptable)
Qualifications: B.E/B.Tech in Civil or Agricultural or Environmental Engineering or equnalent and M.E/M.Tech/M.S (by research) in Hydrology/Hydrology or Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering/Land and Water Resources Engineering, Water Resources Development and Management, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Watershed Management, Irrigation Water Management/integrated Water Resources Management or equivalent with GA"I'E qualified.
Emoluments: Rs. 3 1,()()()/month +8% HRA (for initial two years) and Rs. 35,000/month +8% HRA for 3rd and 4th year
Duration: 4 years
Job description: The overall aim of this project is to develop sustainable pathways tor improving water quality and agricultural water management in Hindon basin. The person appointed to this position is expected to
a) investigate the current level of nutrient and pesticide pollution in Hindon river as well as in the soil and their linkages to agricultural activities through Eco-hydrological modelling at watershed scale
b) collect and process the requisite data,
c) develop suitable agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) to improve soil and river water quality,
d) perform any other task assigned by Pl and co-PI. Knowledge of hydrological modelling (surface and groundwater). agricultural practices (such as crop growth and development, crop calendar, irrigation, fertilization, tillage etc.,), carbon and major nutrients (N&P) in water (surface and groundwater) and in soil, programming, statistical modelling, remote sensing and GIS, and handling spatio-temporal data is preferable.
