Job Description
1. Shift report daily from the outgoing supervisor, noting staffing and status of patients.
2. Take rounds at the beginning of shift, evaluating critical and problem areas acquiring
3. Information to liaise with concerned to ensure safe and cost effective nursing care in the morning, evening and night shifts.
4. Assume responsibility of resolving issues bought to her attention by the nursing staff appropriately and in consultation with NS as required.
5. Is available during crisis situations in any of the units guiding and supporting the nursing staff on duty.
6. Participates in implementing departmental and hospital’s policies and procedures.
7. Maintains a safe, comfortable and congenial environment in her/his shift encouraging adherence to set standards and promoting cooperation with other departments.
8. Assume responsibility for professional and personal growth.
9. Recognizes legal implications and responsibilities in the practice of nursing.
10. Gives feed backs to NS on the performance of nursing and support staff for further guidance and counseling as required.
11. Respond to requests from Staff Nurses, physicians and patients without delay.
12. Accurately and concisely maintain shift report inclusive of issues, solutions and other areas that needs attention of ANS and NS.
13. Maintains census and other shift statistics as directed.
14. Determine the need for re allocations of personnel and, material resources of the units for smooth functioning during their shifts.
15. Maintains confidential report and records of the nursing staff
16. Participates in planning of educational activities of the units in consultation with ANS and NS and the Nursing Educator.
17. Consult with and get the advise from ANS or NS in operational issues of her units on behalf of the nursing personnel and support staff.
18. Investigates all unusual incidents and plans and implements corrective actions as appropriate with the help of ANS and NS.
19. Monitor and evaluate cost effective and safe patient care activities, recommending and implementing changes in consultation with ANS, NS and other departmental heads as and when required.
20. Coordinates and promotes relationships between nursing staff and other departments.
