Job Description

Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is an autonomous academic national institution under Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India dedicated to research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Allied Sciences & Technology. The Institute has its main campus in Koramangala, Bangalore and CREST Campus at Hosakote, Bangalore. It operates field stations at Kavalur & Kodaikanal in Tamilnadu, Gauribidanur in Karnataka, and Leh/Hanle in Union Territory of Ladakh. 1. Name of the position : Project Engineer I (Optics)

2. No. of position : One

3. Nature of Job : To be a part of instrument development team that handles design, fabrication, calibration and testing for ground and space-based astronomy experiments. Candidate should not have any objection to travel to field stations of IIA when required.

4. Remuneration : Rs. 75,000/- per month (Consolidated)

5. Place of Posting : Bengaluru

6. Educational Qualification & Experience : 

a) Full-time post graduate degree in M.Sc (Tech-Optics), M.Tech (Optical Engineering), M.Sc (Optics/Applied Optics) with minimum 1 year of experience* and 60% marks in the aggregate or equivalent grade from a reputed and recognized University/Institution under UGC or Central or State Governments. OR

b) B.E./B.Tech (Optical Engineering) with minimum 3 years of experience* in the field of optics design and instrumentation, with 60% marks in the aggregate or equivalent grade from a reputed and recognized University/Institution under UGC or Central or State Governments. Candidates with higher qualification in relevant field and experience will also be considered.

7. Field of experience: 

a) Essential: Experience in the field of optics design, instrumentation and designing optical systems using software such as ZEMAX/Code-V is required.

b) Desirable: Optical instrumentation, programming knowledge in Python, MATLAB, good in documentation and good communication skills.
