JRF Electronics recruitment in Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (On Contract)

Eligibility: 1. B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc./M.Tech. degree by August 2016 in a relevant branch of Physics / Electronics / Astronomy / Astrophysics with 55% marks or more. 2. Experience in programming languages such as C, C++, IDL and Python is preferable. 3. Good oral and written communication skills in English is necessary. 4. Basic knowledge in astronomy and astrophysics will be an advantage. This is a contract position.

Fellowship: Rs. 23,000/- per month. In addition, the selected candidate is eligible for medical benefits as per the rules of IUCAA. On-campus accommodation will be provided, subject to availability. If not, an HRA of 30% of the fellowship will be provided.

Job description: The AstroSat Science Support Cell (ASSC) has been set up for the purpose of providing assistance to Guest Observers in making observing proposals and in analysing science data of the AstroSat mission. The Cell will provide tools and documentation required for these activities, maintain updates and operate a helpdesk. The ASSC will also organise workshops on AstroSat proposal preparation and data analysis. This is a joint effort of the ISRO and IUCAA. The ASSC has started its operations in May 2016. The duties of the selected candidate will include: (i) the development and testing of beyond pipeline high level software for advanced analysis of AstroSat data, (ii) to assist in maintaining and testing the latest calibration files, (iii) to assist guest observers in proposal submission, and (iv) to assist in conducting workshops held by the ASSC, and any other related duties. It is expected that the selected candidate will spend about 50% of time in direct ASSC activities and the rest in scientific research preferably pertaining to AstroSat data.
