JRF Mathematics recruitment in Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics atMass modeling and study of transients with CZTI (On Contract)
Qualification & Experience: M. Sc / M. Tech degree with first class or higher in Astrophysics / Physics / Mathematics / Statistics.Experience: Candidates must have strong foundation in statistics, basic physics and astrophysics concepts, at the undergraduate level. The selected candidate will be expected to write software of varying complexity in the job. The candidate is also expected to use the GEANT4 package; hence knowledge of C++ is a must.Knowledge of a scripting languages (like Python) or an array language (like IDL) is also necessary. Familiarity with the Linux platform is desirable. Candidates with prior experience in GEANT4 and strong communication skills are preferred.

Age Limit: Under 25 years.
Period of contract: The position is purely temporary and for a period of one year. You shall have no automatic claim on any permanent position at IUCAA or DST by virtue of this fellowship.
Remuneration: Rs. 25,000/- per month.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The candidate will work on the search for astrophysical transients with the Cadmium Zinc Telluride Imager (CZTI) on Astrosat. The work includes statistical analysis of data, looking for outliers, assigning significance, and finding transient sources. The candidate will also have to take up mass modeling of the satellite with the GEANT4 package in order to be able to localize the transient sources in the sky. The final deliverable is a set of software programs that can find transient sources in CZTI data and locate them on the sky. The candidate will have opportunities to participate in and support other parts of the transient search program. The candidate is expected to be highly self-motivated with
capacity for independent work.
