JRF Biotechnology / Life Sciences
Name of the Project: Functional genomics approach to identify small molecule modulator of miR-15 and miR-16 in chronic lymphoid leukemia
Essential Qualification: First Class in M.Sc (Biotechnology) / M.Sc (Life Sciences)/ M.Sc Organic Chemistry.
Desirable ( but not necessary): Candidates having previous experience in techniques such as Cell-culture, Western blotting, Agarose gel electrophoresis, RT-PCR, MTT assay, Flow-cytometry, chromatin epigenetics (OR) Candidates with lot of interest in the field of organic synthesis and their application for therapeutic utility against cancer are encouraged to apply.
Duration of the Project: 3 Years (2018-2021)
Fellowship: Rs. 14,000 / month for three years
Project Description: MiR-15 and miR-16 are tumor suppressor small RNA molecules and can inhibit cancer cell proliferation by binding to 3’-UTR of Bcl-2. These molecules function like p53. The project aims at synthesis of small molecules and their miR modulatory role in CLL.
JRF Bioinformatics - Molecular Dynamics Simulations
Project Title: Investigating the effect of Osmolytes on the Interplay of Dynamics of Water, protein and DNA: Implications for Modulating Protein-DNA Specificity
Essential qualification: First class in M. Sc. or M. Tech. (Biophysics, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Physics, or related fields)
Fellowship: As per rules and regulations
Project Description: Specificity in the binding of proteins to DNA is important for the tight regulation of various cellular processes including replication, transcription etc. Loss of protein-DNA specificity has adverse ramifications including uncontrolled cell proliferation (cancer) etc. Osmolytes are commonly known to be expressed under stress conditions. This project aims to delineate the effect of osmolytes on protein-DNA specificity using computational methods (molecular dynamics simulations).
Field Assistant Position in Biotechnology / Botany:
Project Title: Ethno-scientific approach for evidence based promotion of heritage and indigenous Paddy varieties of Tamil nadu for health & sustainability through conservational memory and gene banking
Essential qualification: Any Bachelor’s degree/+2 pass
Salary: Rs.8,000/-
Project Description: Field survey in all the districts of Tamilnadu need to be undertaken to collect the extant traditional paddy varieties. Field level performance need to be assessed with the help of farmers for conservational promotion through memory and Gene banking. Need to coordinate with farmers.

Fellowship: Rs.31,000/-
Project Description: Field survey in all the districts of Tamilnadu need to be undertaken to collect the extant traditional paddy varieties. Physio-chemical, Morphological, Agronomic characterization need to be undertaken. Therapeutic components have to be screened in these traditional varieties. Field level performance need to be assessed with the help of farmers for conservational promotion through memory and Gene banking.
