Project Title: Wild Tigers of Similipal: A study on spatial distribution abundance and population genetics

DQ: Preference will be given to candidate with prior experience of working on the subject, ability to work under harsh field conditions.

Description of work: The job involves extensive field work in the tough terrain of Similipal Tiger Reserve, Odisha. The research scholar is required to estimate abundane of large carnivores and their prey species. The study also involves assessment of genetic structure of the tiger population in Similipal. The research fellow is required to generate primary data for the project, analyse the data and write the report.

Duration: 3 year

Project Title: Understanding the Amur falcon Falco amurensis, their stopover sites in Nagaland and their migratory routes for better conservation planning

EQ: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Zoology/Botany/Life Science/ Biological Sciences/Environmental Sciences/ with a minimum 60% aggregated marks and above from a recognized university.

DQ: Candidates with prior experience of working on birds, or have carried out field surveys involving population estimation and or ecological studies on other wildlife species

Description of work : This study will involve carrying out extensive field surveys to identify and map Amur Falcon roost sites, and carry out a detailed examination of diet of the falcons. The diet of the Amur falcons will be determined by analysis of the regurgitated pellets and this will involve both field sampling and lab based work. The project assistant is expected to be highly motivated and have the ability to work in harsh environments that will involve trekking to different sites in mountainous terrain.

Duration: 1-2 years

Description of work: Monitoring of livelihood intervention projects funded by DST'S TIME-SEED (Technology Intervention for Mountain Ecosystem: Livelihood Enhancement through Action Research & Networking) Programme. Review past TIME and decide future TIME program with changing priorities and needs to mitigate rapidly degenerating mountain values. Develop scientific strategies for livelihood interventions, which are locally developed and implemented with community participation.

DQ: Experience of working in the Indian Himalayan Region, human-wildlife conflicts issues, Knowledge/ experience in abundance estimation, telemetry, socioeconomic/attitude/conflict surveys, and conflict resolution methods. Knowledge in the use of data analytical software relevant to wildlife sciences.

Duration: 1 year

Description of work: Undertake basic and applied oriented research in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) including working with local communities to address the challenges of human-wildlife conflicts. DQ: Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) spatial analysis and ecological modelling, b) management of spatial database, Remote Sensing and GIS analysis, c) statistical analysis, d) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection, and e) research publications in peerreviewed national/international journals

EQ: Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/ Genetics / Biotechnology/ Molecular Biology/ Bio –chemistry with a minimum 60% aggregated marks and above from a recognized university. 

DQ: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation are preferred. Prior experience of ecological and molecular work with non-invasive samples is desirable. Able to do field work in harsh condition. Knowledge of GIS, GPS, and Remote Sensing is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous fieldwork under rigorous conditions.

Description of work: Field sampling for biodiversity profiling and assessing various Environmental parameters. Genetics related work. 


Project Fellow RS/GIS/01 Posts
