About Company
Maharashtra Prison Department comprises of 9 Central Jails, 31 District Jails, 13 Open Jails, 1 Open colony and 172 Sub-Jails.
There are two separate Prisons for women at Pune and Mumbai. There is two Open prisons for women at Pune & Akola. Maharashtra Prison Department has its Head Quarter at Pune and State Training Center at Yerawada, Pune The Prison Department works with Home Department of Government of Maharashtra. The work of constructing more barracks in the existing prisons has been undertaken. Construction of new jails/barracks and repair of existing structures in jail premises is executed through Public Works Department. Funds are raised from State and Central governments. State Prison Department has also received funds from 13th finance commission for improving the existing facilities and amenities for the inmates of the prisons.
