Job Description

Description POSITION OVERVIEW

Perform availability monitoring as part of incident resolution on mainframe instances, infrastructure availability (ping and heartbeat).

Resolving incidents and service requests relating to the mainframe operating system.

Perform health checks and proactive configuration management like reviewing critical configuration settings on server environment, proactively responding to changes, periodically reviewing operating systems logs and triage and take-action when required.

Periodically review mainframe systems logs and triage and take action when required.

Analyse mainframe performance data and provide proposals to address performance related issues. Periodically logon to the mainframe to troubleshoot and manage address spaces, system health and system performance.

Track and confirm that mainframe environment and associated components inventory is correctly recorded in CMDB. Support the hardware troubleshooting and repair processes, including vendor coordination for hardware and related software based on client-purchased maintenance agreements from the OEM.

Troubleshoot and coordinate the repair of login script configuration changes. Troubleshoot and resolve backup failure incident at the agent level. Create and manage local accounts, including service accounts where applicable.

Troubleshoot and remediate permission issues, unlock local accounts and reset local passwords based on receiving authorised requests.

Periodically review operating system security logs and act upon any issues found and maintain system security logging and associated configuration data to capture all relevant information for the delivery of the services

POSITION GENERAL DUTIES AND TASKS

Apply and record operating system patches (including security risk related patches) as appropriate in line with the agreed patch management process. Troubleshoot and remediate problems in the high availability environment and engage other teams or support if needed. Troubleshoot base IBM transactional and database instances (CICS, DB2, MQ, DB2 Tools). Provide database backup support including database backup configuration, testing and reporting.. Provide database partitioning, housekeeping and management. Provide support for high availability database cluster management solutions.

Support for performance tuning for online, database and database related batch systems. Manage database change activity including the implementation of recommended patches and fixes as necessary in accordance with eirs Change Management process.

Manage, maintain and troubleshoot IBM Online region and database instance configurations such as CICS parameters, DB2 catalogues, and MQ definitions.

Manage, maintain and troubleshoot use of automation for use cases such as region start-up and shutdown, backups, and log offloads. Manage and troubleshoot the physical storage DASD connected frames, standard storage management and retention practices. Maintain processes for backup of DASD volumes. Provide technical support associated with storage management such as DASD volume pooling, DASD volume management, standard practices, and support for storage-related incidents such as allocation errors, space abends, and backup failures.

Troubleshoot supported software routines and processes which support allocation, backup, movement, integrity, retirement and error analysis. If the support software is out of service / end of life / end of support life, related support will be performed on reasonable effort basis.

Assist application support teams on backup of all active systems and application data that resides on DASD on the identified mainframe LPAR, and restore using standard mainframe storage management tool set. Jointly resolve job abends and re-run with respective application team(s) and clients level 1 monitoring team.

Report on user ID access and audit trails. Perform mainframe systems security event log review and analysis.

Provide database backup restoration including disaster recovery testing in alignment with clients business continuity plans as set out in client-defined policies. Perform relevant remediation actions on server environment raised as a result of disaster recovery exercise or vulnerability assessment.

Participate as resolver party in Priority 1 resolution process (owned and managed by eirs service management team). Being responsible for the Design, Build, Deployment, Support, Operations and Monitoring of the eir Group's mainframes and associated Hardware Software including sub-systems and Independent Software Vendor (ISV) software.. R. Be responsible for the completion of service requests..

Responsible for implementing fix on fail changes and BAU changes to the mainframe infrastructure following the eir Groups Change Management process and software asset management (SAM/eiram) process as set out in Schedule 15 (Policies, Procedures Standards)..

Manage the ongoing upgrade, replacement and build of mainframe hardware and software to support demand management and/or capacity management and to assure service availability and stability.

CLIENT BUSINESS PROBLEM TO SOLVE

Acknowledge and resolve the Incident/Service request as per resolution SLAs. - To assign the Incidents to the relevant Groups if beyond scope the scope of support.. - If require information or support will co-ordinate with other teams.
