Job Description:
The roles and responsibilities of the Medical Coder include the following:
· Good understanding of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding guidelines
· Ability to effectively and accurately abstract ICD-9/ICD-10 codes for medical records, as identified in project guidelines
· Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
· Ability to work independently
· Ability to meet quality and productivity standards regularly and consistently
· Ability to consistently adhere to the company’s HIPPA and PHI guidelines
Job Requirements:
· Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, or Certified Coding Associate
· ICD-10 certification or proficiency
· Minimum 2 years of coding experience
· Successful completion of coding skills assessment
· Must possess latest ICD-9/ICD-10 CM code books
· Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data entry
Professional Skills:
· Strong attention to detail
· Knowledge of computer and basic data entry
· Effective team player
· Ability to work independently
· Adaptive, flexible, and dependable
