Earlier, Samastipur Judgeship used to function as a sub-division of Darbhanga Judgeship. Later, seeing the mammoth size of the Darbhanga Judgeship and keeping in view the convenience of people, the present Judgeship of Samastipur was created as an independent Judgeship. In the year 1977, in the month of October, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Shambhu Prasad Singh of Hon'ble High Court of Judicature at Patna, inaugurated the Judgeship. It started functioning with all the bonhomie & sobriety at the same time.
