Job Description

For Every Child, AN ADVOCATE

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favoritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life — in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions — her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, nutrition, education and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens — addressing inequity — not only will give all children the opportunity to fulfill their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.

How can you make a difference?

If you are a committed, creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference for children, the world’s leading children’s rights organization would like to hear from you.

This position aims to generate resources through UNICEF internal network (UNICEF National Committees and other Country Offices and Regional Offices) who in turn raise funds from the Private sector (mainly business, independent foundations and philanthropists) for India Country Office Programs and operations. This position also works on maintaining these donors through quality donor reports and organizing field visits.

The position will work under the guidance of and report to the Partnerships Specialist. The role will involve regular interactions with programme teams, state offices and external stakeholders.

Key Expected Results
  • Acts as the focal point for coordination of activities supporting partnerships with external corporate donors and other large bilateral donors. This includes: supporting programme teams in preparing proposals, preparing and sharing information in accordance to strategic partnership agreements (e.g., through documentation, reports, workshops, meetings, joint reviews, field visits); summarizing results and key action points of discussions, and ensuring that both donor and UNICEF teams are well-informed; following up as necessary on the status of action points; gathering and consolidating inputs from the programme sections and state offices to ensure that the donor receives timely and clearly written progress and final reports, usually following prescribed report templates; responding to donors’ ad hoc queries and concerns.
  • Works with programmes and state offices who benefit from support within particular grant agreements in developing and maintaining an enhanced system to manage the contribution and in particular, to ensure that funds utilization and donor reports are in line with agreed upon conditions. This includes: screening grant reports, analyzing and consolidated statements of allocated funds by programme memorandum output, screening of programme status reports to review and manage results, provide guidance and feedback to state offices on donor priorities and conditions, and initiating appropriate discussions with programme officers and managers with a view to resolving discrepancies and gaps.
  • Leads in the documentation of data related to the donor funded project, its implementation and impact. This level of documentation fulfils knowledge sharing and cross-learning between UNICEF and the donor, and also contributes to strengthening knowledge management within UNICEF. Gathering and compiling documentation may include primary research on field visits, and synthesizing information from existing reports and documents prepared from donors’, UNICEF programme, and relevant third-party perspectives.
  • Work with programme teams to generate income from foundations in India.
  • Represents UNICEF at working level meetings, workshops, and discussions with donors on contribution management.
