Job Description
Applications are invited from eligible candidates willing to persue research in the department of Islamic History and Culture, University of Calcutta.
Eligibility : The eligibility criterion for application is 55%marks in Post Graduation. 5% relaxation is for SC, ST and OBC candidates
The number of vacant seats is 10.
The syllabus of RET has been decided by the Departmental Committee on 21st December 2017 as following:
a. Early Islam (from the age of pre Prophet to 680AD)
b. Socio, Cultural and Economic History of the Turko-Afghan period (1290-1525AD)
c. Socio, Cultural and Economic History of the Mughals (1526-1857AD)
d. History of India (1858-1947AD) with special reference to Muslim Politics
e. Research Methodology
The RET will be held on 22nd February 2017 (12noon-2pm) in the department. The written marks test will be of 50 marks comprising of 5 questions of equal marks from each section mentioned above. The answer should not exceed 350 words. The qualifying mark is 50% and it is to be attained to qualify for Viva-Voce

About Company
The University of Calcutta was established by an Act of the Legislative Council (Act No II of 1857) of the then British India. A supplementary Act empowering the University to confer some additional degrees was passed in 1860. Another Act was passed in 1884 by which the University was authorised to confer honorary Degree of Law.The University Act of 1904 empowered the University to make necessary arrangements for the instruction of students, and though most of the teaching continued to be imparted in the affiliated colleges, teaching in some of the higher branches began to be organised under the University management.The Calcutta University Act, 1951, which came into operation from March, 1954 brought about important changes in the constitution and character of the University. The Act provided for Postgraduate teaching in some of the affiliated colleges along with the University Colleges.
