Programme
IISER Kolkata invites applications from motivated students for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme for the Autumn Semester 2017. The selected candidates can do Ph.D. in any of the disciplines :
Biological Sciences
Eligibility : Applications are invited from motivated candidates having master's degree such as M.Sc/MS/ME/M.Tech/MVSc/MSc(Ag) degree or equivalent (with minimum 55% marks) in: 1. Any branch of biological sciences to pursue research in the broad fields of cellular and molecular biology, cancer biology, developmental biology, structural biology, chemical biology, plant molecular biology, behavioral biology and ecology, marine biology, neurobiology, biodiversity, microbiology, biophysics, bioinformatics, biotechnology and theoretical biology. Candidates from agricultural science and nutritional science backgrounds are also welcome to apply. OR 2. Chemistry / physics / statistics / mathematics / computer application / computer science to pursue research in the interdisciplinary research areas as specified
Chemical Sciences
Eligibility : Bright and motivated candidates who have
passed M.Sc. examination with minimum 55% marks in any field of Chemistry or
Physics. There are two different channels for the admission in the PhD
programme.
Earth Sciences
Eligibility : Candidates having valid CSIR NET JRF/UGC-NET JRF/ DST-INSPIRE /other equivalent fellowship would be eligible to apply. Candidates must have physics, chemistry and mathematics at 10+2 level, and at least one of these subjects at their bachelor level. They can work with any faculty member in DES based on mutual research interest.
Mathematics & Statistics
Eligibility : The minimum eligibility criteria for each of the subject areas are as follows:
Algebraic Topology, Partial Differential Equations and Spectral Graph Theory: A Master's degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10-point scale.
Bayesian Statistics: A Master's degree in Statistics with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10-point scale.
Computational Biology: A Master's degree, with minimum 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10-point scale, in any field of Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics.
Reliability: A Master's degree in Mathematics or Statistics with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10-point scale.
Physical Sciences
Eligibility : Applications are invited from motivated candidates having Masters degree with at least 55% aggregate marks in any field of Physical Sciences for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply; however, they must complete the MSc/MS degree at the time of admission with the requisite 55% aggregate marks.
