Job Description
Admission to PhD
Programme in Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Academic
Session: 2019-20 (Monsoon Semester)
Eligibility : The
general eligibility criterias for admission in all Departments/fields are given
below. These eligibility criterias are the absolute minimum; Departments may
prescribe any other requirements over and above the minimum criteria, subject
to the approval of the IPGC or equivalent committee.
a) Bachelor and Master degree in relavant discipline of
Engineering/Technology with minimum 65% marks or 7.0 CGPA in M.Tech; OR b)
Bachelor degree in in relavant discipline of Engineering/ Technology from IITs
/ NITs / IIITs / other CFTIs with minimum 80% marks or 8.5 CGPA.
In addition to the general criteria, the following
category-wise additional essential criteria for PhD admission are compulsory:
a. For FT 01 – A GATE/NET qualification certificate is must for candidates
having Master degree OR A valid GATE qualification certificate is must for
candidates having Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology. b. For FT 02 – As
per point no. 1.1-(ii) and minimum requirement of the funding agency. c. For PT
01 – Minimum one year teaching/research/industry experience.
Institute Research
Fellow :- Category Code - FT01
In this category candidates are eligible for financial
assistanship/fellowship from NIT Sikkim in the form of teaching or research
assistantships. The fellowship shall be awarded to PhD candidates on a
semester-to-semester basis for a period of upto five years. Such candidates are
expected to devote at least eight hours per week towards duty including
tutorial/laboratory class works, laboratory development etc. or any other job
as assigned by the Department/Institute time to time. The renewal of fellowship
is dependent on the satisfactory academic performance of the candidate and
discharge of duties as assigned to him/her by the department or Institute.
Fellowship will be as per the Institute/MHRD norms and may depend on the
qualification of the candidate. A research fellow awarded fellowship shall not
be eligible to receive any other salary, stipend, emoluments, scholarship,
fellowship etc. during the tenure of the award.
Research Fellow under
sponsored project funded by Government agencies, organisation etc. - Category
Code - FT02
Candidates who receive financial support from government /
semi-government agencies / Organizations such as CSIR, AICTE, UGC, DAE, DST,
DBT, NBHM / Inspire Fellowship or reputed industries/ recognized R&D
Organizations are eligible for doing research work in the Institute under this
category. Candidates from foreign countries / Candidates, who are working in
regular position, not sponsored but released from only Government
Departments/Organisations/Institutions in India on study leave or extraordinary
leave for a period not less than the minimum specified period for doing
research work at the Institute are also eligible for doing research work in the
Institute under this category. Candidates in service have to be released from
the organization for full time research work at the Institute and must furnish
a sponsorship certificate from the employer with the application form. A No
Objection Certificate from the employer should also be enclosed with the
application form. Candidates admitted in this category will not receive any
financial support from the Institute in any form.
Part-time research scholars
(i) Research Fellow registered under collaborative research
programme between NIT Sikkim and other Universities / Institutes / R&D
organisations in India or abroad - Category Code - PT01
Candidates working in Government Colleges / Institutions /
R&D organisations in India or abroad, which are well-equipped with the
necessary research and library facilities and interested in collaborative
research work with NIT Sikkim, OR Faculty members working at NIT Sikkim, may be
considered for admission to PhD programme at NIT Sikkim under this category.
After admission, candidates must fulfill one semester of residential
requirement at the Institute i.e. must stay six (06) months at NIT Sikkim to
complete their necessary course works. The requirement of Institute supervisor
is mandatory in this category, and the external supervisor from his/her
Institute / R&D organization is optional and subject to the approval of the
IPGC or equivalent committee.
Application Fee : Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 100/-for
SC/ST) in favour of “Director, NIT Sikkim” payable at Ravangla
Selection Procedure : Selection will be based on written examination and/or interview. The names of shortlisted candidates will be displayed on the Institute website along with the detail schedule and venue of examination and/or interview.
