PhD Programmes
Programme Categories Each of the above-mentioned departments
offers Full-time and Part-time PhD Programmes under the following categories:
Full-Time
Institute Research Fellow : FT01
Research Fellow under sponsored project funded by Government
agencies, organisation etc. : FT02
Part-Time
Research Fellow under collaborative research programme
between NIT Sikkim and other Government Universities/ Institutes / R&D
organisations in India or abroad. OR Faculty members working at NIT Sikkim. : PT01
Eligibility : The
general eligibility criterias for admission in all Departments/fields are given
below. These eligibility criterias are the absolute minimum; Departments may
prescribe any other requirements over and above the minimum criteria, subject
to the approval of the IPGC or equivalent committee. i) Engineering/
Technology: a) Master degree in Engineering/Technology with a minimum of 65%
marks or 7.0 CGPA; OR b) Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Technology with
minimum 80% marks or 8.5 CGPA. ii) Basic Science: Master degree in Science with
minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA. iii) English: Master degree in English with
minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA. For SC/ST candidates, a relaxation of 5% marks
or 0.5 CGPA will be considered.
A research fellow awarded fellowship shall not be eligible
to receive any other salary, stipend, emoluments, scholarship, fellowship etc.
during the tenure of the award. To qualify for the Institute Fellowship
• GATE / NET(LS or JRF) qualifying certificate is mandatory.
• Bachelor and Master degree in the appropriate discipline
from an institute of national importance / UGC-/AICTE-approved
University/Institution are mandatory.
Selection Procedure : Selection will be based on written
examination and/or interview. The names of shortlisted candidates will be
displayed on the Institute website along with the detail schedule and venue of
examination and/or interview.
Application Fee : Candidates applying for more than one programme in different departments have to apply on separate application forms, with separate Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST) for each programme.
