LEAD has strategic oversight and brand support from Krea University (sponsored by IFMR Society) to enable synergies between academia and the research centre. LEAD is a collaborative hub that brings experts from diverse disciplines and sectors together to develop innovative solutions by harnessing innovation, technology and analytics.
About The Project
LEAD at Krea University, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has set up a Technical Assistance (TA) Unit as a part of it’s ongoing work in the MSME space to support the non-farm effort of National Rural Livelihood Mission, Ministry of Rural Development. The technical assistance unit hereafter referred to as Solutions for Transformative Rural Enterprises and Empowerment (STREE) will provide implementation support for NRETP work, MEL design support as well as pilot scalable solutions to further NLRM’s mandate of ensuring women’s economic empowerment through enterprise creation. This is a 3-year project with current funding till 2022.
About The Role
The STREE team is currently looking to hire a Research Associate to support the team’s ongoing engagements with MoRD. While like most researchers at LEAD, the associate will have the opportunity to contribute to research studies as well as the larger policy discussions that some of the typical responsibilities will require them to.

About The Role
The STREE team is currently looking to hire a Research Associate to support the team’s ongoing engagements with MoRD. Key Responsibilities Of The Position
- Assist in desk review and literature review to inform the TA level decision making.
- Work closely with the manager and the rest of the TA team to formalise the implementation plan.
- Conduct preliminary data analysis as requested by the team from secondary data as well as data received from the ministry (MoRD).
- Oversee the day-to-day implementation of field-based research (scoping, surveying, project implementation) – including the management of field personnel, procurement, budgets, and reporting for the project.
- Assist in the design and field-testing of survey instruments and develop and implement appropriate structures and systems for a larger randomized intervention.
- Develop and oversee field operation and quality control protocols; recruitment, training, and leading of field staff; and coordination with local partners.
Education
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in Public policy, Enterprise development, Economics, Social Sciences, Political Science, Development Studies or related fields.
- 1-2 years of work experience in general with relevant experience in the development sector at the state/national level.
- Should ideally have some fieldwork experience in addition to prior experience conducting desk review.
- Experience with STATA, R, SAS, or related programming languages.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects and multiple governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
- Problem-solving aptitude and a self-starter.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and Hindi is required.
- The role will require traveling to states selected for implementation (in a post COVID scenario) and working closely with government stakeholders.
