Job Description
ICRISAT seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to assume the position as a Scientist-Genebank, to be based in Niamey, Niger.
The scientist will coordinate activities of ICRISAT’s Regional Genebanks in Africa; manage the genebank staff, germplasm conservation, characterization, and evaluation of germplasm to deliver Genebank Platform activities in the West and Central Africa (WCA) and East and South Africa (ESA) under supervision of the Head-Genebank.

Eligibility : D degree in Plant Sciences/Physiology/Phenotyping/Genetic Resources or closely related field.
Minimum of six-year experience in germplasm management, including conservation, characterization and evaluation. Knowledge in plant physiology is essential.
Basic knowledge in molecular biology will be an advantage.
Familiarity of legal matters related to genetic resources such as intellectual property, especially relative to the International Plant Treaty (ITPGRFA), Standard Material Transfer Agreements (SMTA), the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD), the Nagoya Protocol, and international phytosanitary regulations.
Seed quality management, seed conservation (medium- and long-term).
Experience in phenotyping (standard and high throughput).
Capable and competent to negotiate germplasm collection and distribution permits with responsible authorities.
Demonstrated success in attracting research funding and publishing research results.
Team management experience.
Excellent communications skills in English and French proficiency are required.
