Job Description
ICRISAT seeks applications for the post of Scientist – Cropping Systems Modeler for Climate Analytics with Innovation Systems and Drylands Program/ Eastern and Southern Africa which will be primarily based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Essential Criteria: PhD degree in agriculture, agro-meteorology, crop science or similar with experience in farming systems related research Significant expertise (5+ years) in the parameterization, validation and application of crop models in agronomic research and incorporation of findings into extension material and publications
A good understanding of the role and usefulness of climate information services in agriculture and expertise in the management and analytics of data related to climate information and predictive models of future climate
Good publication record, as evidenced by senior authored research papers in an international refereed journals
Experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders and interests to work in interdisciplinary team
Ability and willingness to participate in fieldwork and travel extensively in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Excellence in English (both spoken and written)
Desirable Criteria: Knowledge of other system analytical tools such as bio-economic or value chain modelling. Agronomic knowledge of the major crops and cropping systems of Ethiopia and region ,Demonstrated ability to write proposals and fund raise
Understanding of semi-arid smallholder farming systems and their constraints and opportunities for sustainable intensification
