Job Description
Summary
The Software Developer-Web, will work within an interesting and collaborative team environment, working on projects, right across the global STERIS business. This would be a great move for someone with a few years of commercial web development experience behind them - looking to take the next step in their career. This position reports to Director IT Operations.
This position will require to work on new web builds, working from a brief to create new functionality, enhancing existing functionality, re-designing pages, creating page templates, building landing pages from a wireframe, editing content and debugging code.
This position is in WordPress, but this is a varied role, so adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies is needed.
Essential Job Functions
Web Application Support - 30%
Provides first level support for assigned .Net Applications modules and related applications
Troubleshoots and resolves problems reported by users of these modules and applications.
Investigates issues using vendor support website(s).
Creates tickets or service requests with software vendor.
Develops fixes for issues
Develops changes to programs to resolve issues
Works with other team members, DBA team and other teams to resolve issues
Web Applications Development - 70%
Reviews and understands business requirements for development tasks assigned
Develops new programs or makes changes to existing programs, according to business requirements
Develops test scripts and tests programs according to business requirements
Submits programs to supervisor for review and approval
Works with business users to test programs in Development and Quality
Writes technical documentation
Works with DBA, System Administration teams to migrate programs to Quality and Production
Skills
Education/License Requirements
BachelorâÂÂs Degree
Experience Requirements
5+ years of experience in WordPress development experience is essential for this role
Good working knowledge of the WordPress core - The Loop, Hooks, Actions, Filters etc
Experience working with Custom Content Types and fields would also be useful.
Experience building Themes would be very desirable. And any experience developing custom plugins would be an advantage
Experience using the Bootstrap framework would also be useful
Basic experience with Photoshop and a good eye for visual design would be a distinct advantage.
Experience developing landing pages / microsites and email templates and static websites also desirable
Essential Skills
WordPress
PHP, MySQL
Strong HTML, CSS and JS skills (SAAS also desirable)
Experience of contributing to applications built on the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack.
Experience of working with GIT version control system
Experience developing from wireframes.
