Technical Support Engineer
Job Description
Ø Installing, configuring and troubleshooting of computer hardware, operating systems, storage, servers, switches and network applications
Ø Knowledge on storage devices: tape-based and disk-based
Ø Know different types of RAID, their performance, which is good for what type of Applications
Ø Thorough understanding of SAN, NAS - Best practices on configuring for High availability, replication, security, troubleshooting, Disaster recovery planning ( Recovery time Objective / Recovery Time objective )
Ø Maintaining the proper backup schedule
Ø Restore and recover data as requested
Ø Facilitate off-site storage of tape
Ø Replacing parts as required
Ø Talking to clients through a series of actions, first preference is
through
Email, if the issue is not resolved then they should support them by
remotely and over the telephone to help set up hardware equipment,
systems and servers
Ø Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports
Ø Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up the device
Ø Supporting the roll-out of new applications
Ø Setting up new users' accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues
Ø Responding within agreed time limits to call-outs
Ø Working continuously on a task until completion
Ø Prioritizing and managing many open cases at one time
Ø Rapidly establishing a good working relationship with customers and other professionals, e.g., software developers
Ø Testing and evaluating a new technology
Ø Conducting electrical safety checks on hardware equipment
