“Theatre in Education Course” conducts National School of Drama (2017-18)

The aim of the TIE Course is to prepare Theatre Teachers for School and Artists for TIE activities.

In 2012, the School established National School of Drama (TIE Wing), Tripura at Agartala in collaboration with Dept. of Information & Cultural Affairs and Higher Education, Govt. of Tripura. The Course aims at preparing theatre teachers for schools and TIE expert.

One Year Residential TIE Course :

  • It is a one year post-graduate certificate course in Theatre in Education
  • It is a course that balances an understanding of education, child development and theatre and attempts an interface between them.
  • Classes will start at 8 am and go on up to 6.30 pm. Class timings could extend if and when required.
  • Training will be divided into two terms.
  • Basic qualification required for admission to the course is graduation in any discipline with experience of theatre or education or both.
  • 20 students will be admitted to the course from North Eastern States.
  • The medium of instruction will be Hindi and English but the performance languages could be these and/or local languages.

Scholarship : Those selected for the course will be given a monthly scholarship of Rs.4500/- per month, for a period of one year.

The National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India. It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959. In 1975, it became an independent entity and was registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public. The syllabus takes into account the methods of great theatre personalities who have shaped contemporary theatre in all its variety.
