Scholarship Programme conduct in TWAS
The TWAS Prizes are awarded to individual scientists from developing countries in recognition of an outstanding contribution to scientific knowledge in nine fields of sciences and/or to the application of science and technology to sustainable development.
Each year the Academy awards nine prizes of USD 15,000 each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years.
Eligibility : Candidates for a TWAS Prize must be scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least ten years immediately prior to their nomination. They must meet at least one of the following qualifications: Scientific research achievement of outstanding significance for the development of scientific thought. Outstanding contribution to the application of science and technology to sustainable development. Members of TWAS and candidates for TWAS membership are not eligible for TWAS Prizes. Self-nominations will not be considered
Fellowships : With the world’s largest South-South PhD and post-doctoral research fellowship programme, TWAS helps early-career researchers to gain education and experience at top global science institutions. TWAS currently has over 460 PhD fellowships with 13 partners in eight countries, and over 150 postdoctoral fellowships with 16 partners in nine countries. New PhD and postdoctoral fellowships are now available in collaboration with NRF, South Africa
PhD Fellowships : For developing countries, and especially the Least Developed Countries, PhD scientists help build a foundation for scientific strength and human prosperity. TWAS offers more than 460 PhD fellowships a year at some of the most respected institutions in the developing world. These fellowships are hosted in Brazil, China, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico and Pakistan. New fellowships are now available with NRF, South Africa
Postdoctoral Fellowships : Scientists from developing countries who have recently earned their PhD can gain invaluable experience working with prominent scientists in a developing country through TWAS fellowships. Postdoctoral fellowships, lasting from six months to three years, are hosted in Brazil, India, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan and Thailand. New fellowships are now available with NRF, South Africa.
Selection : Selection of the awardees is made on scientific merit and on the recommendations of the selection committees composed of TWAS members. The names of the winners will be announced on the first day of the TWAS 27th General Meeting.
