About the organization and department
The mission of Animal Aid Unlimited is to rescue and treat the un-owned animals of India who have become ill or
injured, and through their rescue inspire a community to protect and defend the lives of all animals.
We operate one of India’s most active rescue services, responding to more than 70 calls on our helpline every day and
involving thousands of Udaipur residents in the process of rescuing street animals every year. Our hospital and
sanctuary (located in Badi, 10 km from Udaipur) house a total of more than 600 animals (dogs, cows, donkeys, cats
and other animals).
The department is responsible to treat the animals. Medical department is directly in touch with animals. The primary
and main purpose of the department is to provide proper treatment and care to animals.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Checks and treats all animals daily in their area
- Perform thorough general examination
- Monitors patients receiving drips or with low/high temperature or other special needs throughout the day
- Follows medical protocols and asks medical manager when unsure or when indicated in the protocol
- Able to assess when an animal needs sedation for treatment and safely give
- Follows admission to release procedures, including assessment of animal before release to changes in condition
- Decides when animals are ready for release from a medical standpoint
- Decides when dogs are ready for spay/neuter and coordinates with ABC compounder/veterinarian
- Does periodic rounds to check all serious cases and prioritise treatment
- Performs rounds periodically throughout the day checking medical problems as well as water, cleanliness
- Alerts medical manager for serious cases
- Presents cases to supervisor/medical manager who are not responding to treatment, or getting worse, etc
- Ensures humane treatment by all workers/volunteers of all animals in their area
- Monitors staff for proper handling techniques including muzzling, carrying injured animals, restraining during treatment and moving animals
- Informs next shift of all animals who need to be checked and gives instructions
- Checks all new admissions and gives the go-ahead to other staff to make sure they aren’t a rabies suspect or having another infectious disease
- Informs all staff in the area about any dangerous or contagious animals for their safety
- Writes legibly and in detail in each animals record
- Maintains all animal records
Required knowledge and skill
- LSA diploma (above 60%)
- Can read and write in Hindi
- Basic understanding of English
- Good math skills. Able to calculate dose rates from mg to ml and body weight
- Basic understanding of medicine and their categories/uses
- Understanding of animal’s species specific needs, emotional and physical
- Ability to accurately follow instructions
- Physically fit, able to lift heavy dogs, must be coordinated to handle agitated animals during medical treatment
- Comfort around dogs is a must
Other Important Duties:
- Must be available to work varying shifts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
- Has own transportation and can work in different locations
CTC 13k -15k per month (depends on knowledge)
