Duties and responsibilities of an IAS officer

The responsibility of an IAS officer is to maintain the administrative condition of any state by working together with every officer and other officials to make sure that everything within the system is going smoothly and effectively

  •  Revenue collection from the state

  •  Operate as courts officials for various cases and issues

  •  Formulation of laws and policies in the presence of ministers and delegates

  •  Co-ordinating with police officials and state level officers

It is a 9AM to 5PM job but depends on the workload and they might have to work at weekends.


Qualifications required to become an IPS officer


One is required to have a graduation degree to apply for the UPSC test. One must clear the UPSC Prelims, Mains and crack the interview. 


Under-graduate courses to become an IPS officer


  • Graduation from any stream


Eligibility to pursue the course: -


  • Anybody who has passed class 12th with 50 to 60 percent pass marks

  • Experienced-level salary (Cabinet secretary): - Rs. 30 lakhs per annum
