The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination conducted by IHRD ministry of India which evaluates the candidates based on their engineering subjects. GATE exam is conducted by IITs/IISC on behalf of the National Coordination Board.
The GATE score of a candidate is published as percentile which reflects the relative performance level of a candidate with respects to the total no of students who appeared for the entrance examination.
The score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, and Doctor of Philosophy)
in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies.
Recently, GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions.
