Job Description
*Monitor transactions to detect suspicious activities
Key Responsibilities:
1. Transaction Monitoring
-
Review transaction alerts generated by monitoring systems for unusual or suspicious activity.

Analyze customer transactions for patterns and behaviors that may indicate money laundering or financial crimes.

Perform detailed investigations using internal systems and external databases.
-
Assess transactions involving high-risk jurisdictions, industries, or clients.
2. Alert Handling and Disposition
-
Determine whether flagged alerts are genuine or false positives based on supporting documentation and customer profiles.

Escalate alerts as necessary, with appropriate justifications, for further review or filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) or Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs).

Document all findings, investigations, and decisions clearly and concisely in accordance with regulatory standards and audit requirements.
3. Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that all transaction monitoring activities comply with internal AML policies, local and international regulatory frameworks (e.g., BSA, FATF, OFAC, EU AMLD).

Stay updated on changes in AML laws, guidelines, and typologies.

Support timely and accurate filing of SARs/STRs with relevant authorities when required.
4. Investigation and Risk Assessment

Conduct in-depth analysis of customer profiles, account activity, and payment behavior.

Utilize tools like LexisNexis, World-Check, or internal KYC systems to assess customer risk levels.

Identify trends or typologies associated with laundering schemes such as layering, structuring, smurfing, or trade-based laundering.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
-
Work closely with KYC/CDD teams, sanctions screening teams, and fraud analysts to obtain additional information and ensure a comprehensive review.

Liaise with Legal and Compliance teams for policy interpretation and regulatory updates.

Support audit and regulatory reviews by providing well-documented case files and reports.
6. Continuous Process Improvement

Recommend enhancements to transaction monitoring rules and thresholds based on investigation findings.

Participate in calibration and tuning exercises to reduce false positives and improve alert quality.

Contribute to AML training, policy updates, and development of standard operating procedures.
