Job Description
Job Summary:
An Assembly Fitter is responsible for assembling mechanical parts and components into complete or partial units for machinery, equipment, or structures. This skilled trade role is commonly found in manufacturing, engineering, automotive, and industrial sectors. The Assembly Fitter uses a range of hand and power tools to fit, align, and secure mechanical parts based on blueprints, technical drawings, or assembly instructions.
The ideal candidate should possess strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. This is a hands-on role requiring physical stamina, precision, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical Assembly:

Assemble mechanical parts or units based on technical drawings, layout diagrams, or written instructions.

Fit and install parts such as shafts, bearings, gears, bolts, and couplings using appropriate tools.

Align and secure components to required tolerances using measuring instruments like vernier calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

Use hand tools (spanners, screwdrivers, hammers) and power tools (drills, grinders, impact wrenches) to perform assembly tasks.
2. Blueprint and Technical Drawing Interpretation:

Read and interpret assembly blueprints, schematics, exploded diagrams, and engineering instructions.

Follow assembly checklists and documentation to ensure all specifications are met.

Mark reference points, drill holes, and cut materials as needed during the assembly process.
3. Fitting and Alignment:

Perform accurate fitting, filing, reaming, and adjustments to ensure parts align properly.

Use jigs, fixtures, and alignment tools to position components accurately.

Ensure smooth movement of mechanical assemblies by checking clearances and tolerances.
4. Quality Control and Testing:

Inspect assembled components for defects, misalignments, or improper fits.

Test mechanical assemblies for proper operation, movement, and noise levels.

Rework or report defective parts or assemblies as per quality guidelines.

Complete quality checklists and maintain accurate records of work completed.
5. Maintenance and Tool Care:

Maintain hand and power tools in good working condition.

Follow preventive maintenance procedures for workshop equipment.

Identify faulty tools and coordinate with maintenance for repairs or replacements.
6. Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all company safety procedures and protocols.

Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as gloves, helmets, and safety boots.

Follow safe lifting techniques and proper handling of heavy or sharp objects.

7. Collaboration and Reporting:
