Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking Assistant Cook to support kitchen operations by assisting in food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and inventory management. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, a basic understanding of food safety practices, and the ability to follow instructions accurately. This role is crucial in ensuring smooth kitchen workflow and maintaining high standards of food quality and hygiene.
The Assistant Cook will work closely under the guidance of the Head Chef or Cook, learning daily operations while contributing to the production of meals in a fast-paced kitchen environment such as a restaurant, hotel, cafeteria, or catering service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Food Preparation:

Assist in cutting, chopping, peeling, and washing vegetables, fruits, and meats as directed.

Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes or instructions from the chef.

Pre-prepare sauces, marinades, dressings, and seasoning mixes for dishes.

Set up and restock workstations with ingredients and utensils as needed.
2. Cooking Support:

Help in basic cooking tasks such as frying, boiling, sautéing, baking, and grilling.

Ensure that all food is prepared to high standards in a timely and efficient manner.

Assist in portioning, plating, and garnishing dishes under the chef’s supervision.

Follow kitchen procedures and recipes precisely to maintain consistency in flavor and presentation.
3. Cleaning and Hygiene:

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, utensils, and work areas.

Clean and sanitize food preparation surfaces, cutting boards, and kitchen equipment after use.

Assist in dishwashing and ensure utensils are dried and stored properly.

Dispose of food waste and maintain garbage bins as per kitchen guidelines.
4. Inventory and Stocking:

Assist in unpacking and storing food supplies and ingredients in proper storage areas.

Inform kitchen management about low stock levels of ingredients or equipment shortages.

Label and date food items and follow FIFO (First In, First Out) principles to prevent spoilage.
5. Safety and Compliance:

Follow all food safety and hygiene standards, including the use of gloves, aprons, and hairnets.

Report any food quality concerns, accidents, or hazards to the chef or supervisor immediately.

Handle hot surfaces, knives, and kitchen appliances with care to avoid injuries.
6. Teamwork and Communication:

Work closely with chefs, kitchen staff, and servers to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Listen to instructions carefully and communicate any difficulties or delays promptly.

Support fellow kitchen staff during busy periods or special events.
