Job Description

Job Title: Bakery and Pastry Commis (International Placement – Armenia)

Job Overview

The Bakery and Pastry Commis assists senior pastry chefs in the preparation of desserts and bakery products, ensuring consistent quality and presentation. They are also responsible for measuring ingredients, operating baking equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and following recipes precisely.

This role requires creativity, patience, and precision. Candidates should have an interest in baking techniques, cake decoration, and dessert presentation while maintaining efficiency under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Preparation of Ingredients

    • Measuring and mixing ingredients according to recipes.

    • Preparing dough, batters, creams, and fillings for pastries and bakery products.

    • Ensuring proper storage and labeling of ingredients.

  2. Baking and Cooking

    • Assisting in baking bread, cakes, pastries, cookies, and other desserts.

    • Following standardized recipes and instructions from senior pastry chefs.

    • Monitoring baking times and temperatures for consistent results.

  3. Decoration and Presentation

    • Assisting in decorating cakes, pastries, and desserts using icings, glazes, fondants, and garnishes.

    • Ensuring all products are presented in an appealing and attractive manner.

  4. Maintaining Hygiene and Cleanliness

    • Following strict food safety and hygiene standards.

    • Cleaning workstations, utensils, ovens, and other baking equipment regularly.

    • Ensuring all bakery products are stored properly to maintain freshness.

  5. Assisting Senior Chefs

    • Supporting the Head Pastry Chef and Chef de Partie in daily operations.

    • Helping with menu planning and product innovation when required.

    • Learning and applying new baking techniques under supervision.

  6. Stock and Inventory Management

    • Monitoring ingredient levels and informing supervisors about shortages.

    • Receiving and inspecting bakery supplies and ensuring proper storage.

  7. Customer Interaction (if applicable)

    • In smaller bakeries, assisting customers by explaining products or taking orders.

    • Suggesting products based on customer preferences when required.
