Business Development Manager - Insurance - Commercial and Retail
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. New Business Acquisition:
-
Identify and pursue new business opportunities across commercial and retail insurance segments.

Generate leads through cold calling, networking, referrals, digital outreach, and industry events.

Conduct in-person or virtual meetings to understand client requirements and suggest suitable insurance solutions (e.g., motor, property, fire, marine, liability, health, life, group policies).

Prepare proposals, negotiate terms, and close sales to meet individual and team targets.
2. Client Relationship Management:
-
Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key clients, brokers, and corporate partners.

Provide post-sale support including onboarding, policy servicing, renewals, and resolving customer queries.

Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and retention through prompt and professional service.
3. Product and Market Expertise:
-
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance products, underwriting guidelines, policy terms, and regulatory requirements.

Stay informed on market trends, competition, and customer preferences in both the commercial and retail insurance spaces.

Work closely with underwriters, actuaries, and claims teams to design customized solutions for clients with complex needs.
4. Reporting and Forecasting:

Maintain accurate records of sales activities, leads, pipeline status, and client interactions in CRM or reporting tools.

Provide regular sales reports, forecasts, and updates to the senior management team.

Analyze market data and campaign performance to refine sales strategies.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration:

Coordinate with marketing, underwriting, customer service, and operations teams to ensure smooth policy issuance and client onboarding.

Support marketing initiatives including campaigns, webinars, and awareness programs targeting retail and commercial audiences.
Key Skills and Competencies:

Proven sales or business development experience in insurance (commercial, retail, or both)

Strong understanding of general insurance (property, liability, motor, marine) and/or life & health products

Excellent communication and negotiation skills
-
Ability to identify client needs and translate them into customized insurance solutions

Analytical mindset with problem-solving skills

Proficiency in using CRM software and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Strong networking and relationship-building abilities
