Cable Technician
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installation and Setup
-
Perform installation of coaxial, fiber optic, or LAN cables for broadband, internet, cable TV, and other network services at residential or commercial premises.

Mount and configure related hardware such as routers, set-top boxes, modems, Wi-Fi extenders, splitters, switches, ONTs, and CCTV cameras.

Set up and test signal strength and internet connectivity to ensure optimal system performance.
-
Follow installation blueprints, diagrams, and customer requirements for proper routing and termination.
2. Maintenance and Troubleshooting
-
Respond to service calls for issues related to connectivity, signal loss, cable damage, or equipment malfunction.

Use diagnostic tools like signal testers, splicing kits, power meters, and multimeters to identify and fix faults.

Replace damaged cables, connectors, and faulty hardware as needed.
-
Document all repairs and parts replaced and maintain service logs.
3. Customer Service and Support
-
Interact with customers professionally during site visits to explain installations or repairs.

Answer customer queries regarding usage, configuration, safety precautions, or upgrades.
-
Ensure the work area is clean and neat after installations or repairs are complete.
-
Educate customers about how to use their equipment, handle basic troubleshooting, and care for their service setup.
4. Safety and Compliance
-
Adhere to safety standards for working with electrical wiring, heights (ladders or poles), and outdoor environments.
-
Ensure compliance with company installation protocols and local building/electrical codes.

Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as gloves, safety glasses, and harnesses when required.
-
Report hazards, safety violations, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
5. Equipment and Inventory Management
-
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, ensuring they are returned after each job.

Keep inventory of cables, connectors, routers, clamps, wall outlets, and other installation materials.
-
Request replenishment of consumables and ensure no misuse or wastage of resources.
6. Team Coordination and Reporting
-
Work as part of a team or independently based on the project size and schedule.
-
Submit daily job reports including customer details, time logs, job status, and materials used.

Coordinate with the technical support team or helpdesk for backend testing or remote configurations.
-
Attend technical briefings, product training sessions, and safety meetings as scheduled.
