Car Mechanic
Job Description
- Diagnosis and Repair: Identifying and resolving mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and experience.
- Customer Communication: Explaining diagnoses and repairs to customers in a clear and understandable manner.
- Compliance: Ensuring adherence to safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vehicle Inspection & Diagnosis:

Perform thorough inspections of incoming vehicles to identify issues or service needs.

Use manual tools and computerized diagnostic equipment (like OBD scanners) to detect faults in the engine, brakes, suspension, transmission, and electrical systems.

Listen to customer complaints and conduct test drives to understand and verify problems.
2. Routine Servicing & Maintenance:
-
Carry out regular vehicle maintenance including engine oil changes, filter replacements, coolant checks, brake fluid top-ups, and tire rotations.

Perform battery testing and replacement, spark plug checks, and belt inspections.

Inspect and maintain brake pads, discs, clutch systems, exhaust systems, and steering components.
3. Mechanical Repairs:

Conduct engine repairs, gearbox overhauls, and clutch replacements as per manufacturer guidelines.

Address issues related to radiators, alternators, starter motors, fuel injection systems, and other internal systems.

Replace or repair defective parts using appropriate hand tools, lifting equipment, and power tools.
4. Electrical & Electronic Repairs:

Identify and fix issues in vehicle wiring, lighting systems, sensors, car AC systems, and infotainment panels.

Calibrate or reset systems post-repair using scanning tools.

Understand and follow wiring diagrams and electrical circuit charts.
5. Quality Control & Safety Checks:
-
Ensure all repair work is done to a high standard of quality and safety.

Conduct pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and test drives to confirm that issues have been resolved.

Make sure all services comply with manufacturer specifications and government safety standards.
6. Customer Service & Communication:

Clearly explain repairs and services done to the service advisor or customers when required.

Recommend preventative maintenance or repairs based on current vehicle condition.

Maintain a professional attitude while dealing with clients or team members.
7. Record Keeping & Documentation:

Update service records and job cards with details of repairs performed and parts used.
-
Maintain a checklist for each vehicle to ensure no task is missed.

Report parts shortages or additional repair needs to the supervisor in a timely manner.
