Car Mechanic
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
1. Vehicle Inspection & Diagnosis
-
Conduct a complete inspection of vehicles brought in for repair or service.

Use diagnostic tools, scanners, or manual techniques to identify issues in the engine, brakes, transmission, AC, electrical systems, or suspension.
-
Discuss findings with the service advisor or supervisor for customer approval.
2. Mechanical Repairs
-
Repair or replace damaged parts such as clutches, gearboxes, axles, water pumps, radiators, shock absorbers, etc.
-
Adjust, align, or replace components like timing belts, steering systems, and exhausts.
-
Repair or service braking systems, including disc pads, drums, calipers, and master cylinders.
3. Electrical & Electronics Work
-
Check and repair wiring, fuses, batteries, alternators, lights, power windows, and central locking systems.
-
Diagnose and repair issues in car computers, ECU, and sensors using electronic testing tools.
-
Install additional equipment like security alarms, music systems, or GPS trackers if required.
4. Preventive Maintenance
-
Perform routine services such as engine oil change, filter replacement, coolant flushing, and AC servicing.
-
Lubricate moving parts and inspect fluid levels, belts, hoses, and tire pressure.
-
Ensure vehicles are road-ready after every service.
5. Documentation & Reporting
-
Maintain records of work done, parts used, and time taken for each job.

Fill service checklists and diagnostic reports accurately.
-
Assist service advisors in explaining technical issues and repairs to customers.
6. Workshop Hygiene & Safety
-
Keep the work area clean and organized.
-
Follow safety procedures while using lifts, jacks, tools, and electrical equipment.
-
Wear proper safety gear such as gloves, overalls, and goggles when required.
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
-
Education: ITI or Diploma in Automobile Engineering, Motor Mechanic course, or equivalent vocational training.
-
Experience: Hands-on experience in a car workshop, dealership, or service center.

Knowledge Areas:
-
Internal combustion engine (petrol/diesel)
-
Transmission systems (manual/automatic)
-
Vehicle electrical and electronic systems
-
Air conditioning systems and basic diagnostics
-
Technical Skills:
-
Ability to use hand tools, pneumatic tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Basic computer or tablet usage (for job cards, service logs).
-
Understanding of automotive terminology and systems.
Soft Skills:

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently and take initiative.
-
Honest, responsible, and disciplined approach to work.

Willingness to learn new technology (EVs, hybrid systems, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications

Certification from vehicle manufacturers or training centers (e.g., Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Bosch, Tata, Mahindra, etc.).

Experience working with specific car brands or types (e.g., sedans, SUVs, luxury cars, EVs).

Valid driving license (2-wheeler or 4-wheeler) is preferred.
