Key Responsibilities

Transaction Processing

Operate cash registers, POS (Point of Sale) systems, and barcode scanners.

Accurately process cash, credit/debit card, mobile wallet, and voucher payments.

Issue receipts, refunds, or exchanges according to store policies.

Ensure correct handling of discounts, offers, and loyalty programs.

Customer Service
-
Greet customers warmly and assist them during the checkout process.

Answer basic product-related questions or direct customers to the relevant staff.

Handle customer complaints or escalate issues to the supervisor or manager.

Maintain a positive and courteous attitude to encourage repeat business.

Cash Handling and Record-Keeping

Count cash in the till before and after each shift.

Ensure that the till balances at the end of the day.

Report any discrepancies to the store manager immediately.

Follow security procedures to prevent theft or loss.

Product and Store Knowledge

Maintain awareness of daily promotions, menu items (in a café), or new arrivals (in FMCG shops).

Be familiar with store layout to quickly direct customers.

Suggest complementary products or upsell items when appropriate.

Inventory Support

Monitor stock levels at the checkout counter (e.g., small snacks, impulse-buy items).

Inform the store team when products are running low.

Assist with unpacking deliveries and restocking shelves during quiet periods.

Cleanliness and Organization

Keep the cashier station neat, clean, and clutter-free.

Maintain hygiene standards, especially in a café environment.

Dispose of waste appropriately and keep shopping bags or packaging stocked.

Follow store policies regarding age-restricted sales (e.g., alcohol, tobacco).
