Job Description
Assist cardiologists and other healthcare professionals during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures.
Monitor patients’ vital signs and administer medications as required.
Prepare and maintain sterile fields and equipment for procedures.
Educate patients and families on pre- and post-procedure care.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies and safety protocols.
Respond to emergencies and provide critical care support when necessary.
Document patient progress and maintain accurate medical records.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pre-Procedure Preparation
-
Prepare the Cath Lab before each procedure by setting up sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies.

Verify patient identity and ensure all pre-procedure documentation and consent forms are complete.

Perform baseline assessments (vital signs, allergies, patient history) and prepare the patient (e.g., shaving, IV access, monitoring leads).
-
Assist in positioning and draping the patient while maintaining aseptic techniques.
2. Intra-Procedure Assistance
-
Scrub in to assist cardiologists during angiograms, angioplasties, stent placements, ballooning, and pacemaker insertions.

Monitor the patient’s vitals and ECG in real time and report any abnormalities immediately.

Operate Cath Lab equipment like monitoring systems, injectors, and defibrillators when required.

Administer medications and contrast agents under physician supervision.
3. Post-Procedure Care
-
Transfer patients safely to the recovery area or ICU post-procedure and monitor for signs of bleeding, hematoma, or complications.

Provide post-procedure care instructions, including bed rest, medication advice, and catheter site monitoring.

Document nursing assessments, medications given, and any intra-procedural events in the patient record.
4. Emergency Response
-
Respond swiftly to medical emergencies such as arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, or anaphylaxis during procedures.

Assist in CPR, use of crash cart, and code blue protocols as required.
5. Equipment and Infection Control
-
Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of all instruments and equipment used in the Cath Lab.

Maintain inventory of sterile supplies and report shortages or equipment malfunctions.

Adhere strictly to hospital infection control protocols and radiation safety measures.
6. Documentation & Reporting
-
Maintain accurate and up-to-date nursing records, medication charts, and Cath Lab logs.

Report incidents, procedural outcomes, and adverse reactions to the nursing supervisor or cardiologist.

Participate in audits, quality checks, and continuing education activities.
