Job Description
Job Summary
A CCTV Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and related security equipment. This role involves working at various client sites or company premises to ensure that security systems are operating effectively and in compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge of surveillance systems, hands-on experience with installation, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to customers.
- Monitoring: Monitoring a company’s surveillance guards and ensuring that the system is functioning properly and responding to alarms.
- Diagnosing: Discovering the cause of technical faults and resolving them in a timely manner.
- Installation: Setting up new equipment, installing CCTV systems and connecting cabling.
- Configuration: Configuring CCTV systems so they are compatible with the necessary software and connected to the correct wiring.
- Maintenance: Repairing faulty equipment, upgrading software and monitoring performance.
Key Responsibilities
Installation and Configuration

Install CCTV systems, including cameras (IP and analog), DVRs/NVRs, monitors, cabling, and network components.

Set up and configure recording systems, including camera angles, resolutions, and motion detection.

Ensure all equipment is mounted and installed securely and safely.

Run and terminate low-voltage cabling including coaxial, Cat5/6, and fiber optics when necessary.

Integrate CCTV systems with other security systems, such as alarm systems, access control, or intercoms.
Maintenance and Servicing

Perform routine maintenance checks on CCTV systems to ensure proper functionality.

Clean and adjust camera lenses, housings, and mounts to maintain optimal performance.

Replace or upgrade faulty equipment such as hard drives, cameras, or power supplies.

Apply firmware or software updates to devices as required.
Troubleshooting and Repairs

Diagnose and resolve technical problems related to CCTV cameras, recording devices, and associated software.

Use diagnostic tools, software interfaces, and test equipment to identify system errors.

Repair or replace defective components and verify restored functionality.

Provide timely responses to service calls and client complaints.
Customer Service and Support

Communicate clearly with clients to understand their security needs and explain technical solutions.

Provide demonstrations or basic training to clients on system use and monitoring.

Offer post-installation support and handle queries related to operations or system faults.

Maintain strong client relationships by being professional, courteous, and responsive.
Documentation and Reporting

Maintain detailed records of installations, service visits, system configurations, and maintenance checks.

Prepare service reports and equipment logs for management and clients.

Follow company protocols for job reporting and inventory management.
Site Assessment and Planning

Conduct on-site assessments and surveys to determine security requirements and camera placements.

Create or interpret layout drawings, wiring schematics, and system designs.

Work with clients or project managers to plan and execute installations in line with project timelines and budgets.
