Job Description
Position Overview
A Clean Room Utility Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting critical cleanroom utility systems to ensure uninterrupted and efficient functioning of all facility operations. This role is essential in industries like pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, and precision engineering, where controlled cleanroom environments are mandatory.
The technician’s primary focus is on HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, Building Management Systems (BMS), diesel generators (DGs), vacuum systems, electrical systems, and process cooling water (PCW) facilities. The work requires strict adherence to safety, compliance, and cleanroom protocols to maintain environmental integrity and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operation of Cleanroom Utility Systems

Operate HVAC systems to maintain required temperature, humidity, and air cleanliness levels.

Monitor chillers, pumps, and PCW systems to ensure proper performance.

Operate DG sets for backup power during outages.

Manage and control vacuum systems for production equipment needs.

Monitor and operate utilities via the Building Management System (BMS).
2. Preventive Maintenance

Carry out routine preventive maintenance for HVAC units, chillers, pumps, DGs, vacuum systems, and electrical panels.

Lubricate moving parts, replace filters, inspect belts, and check refrigerant levels.

Perform periodic calibration of sensors and controls.

Ensure backup systems are tested and operational.
3. Troubleshooting and Repairs
-
Diagnose faults in utility equipment quickly and accurately.

Repair or replace defective components in mechanical, electrical, or control systems.

Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize downtime.

Maintain accurate fault logs and root cause analysis reports.
4. Monitoring and Documentation

Maintain operational logs for all utility equipment.

Record temperature, pressure, flow, and electrical readings as per SOPs.

Keep updated maintenance records and service histories.

Prepare reports for audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
5. Compliance and Safety

Follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and cleanroom protocols.

Comply with ISO, FDA, and other relevant regulatory requirements.

Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.

Ensure lockout/tagout procedures are followed during maintenance.
6. Coordination and Support

Coordinate with production, quality control, and engineering teams for maintenance scheduling.

Support contractors and vendors during major repair or installation works.

Assist in commissioning and validation of new utility systems.
Skills and Competencies
1. Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of HVAC system operation and maintenance.

Experience with DG set operation and basic diesel engine troubleshooting.

3. Cleanroom Practices

Knowledge of contamination control procedures.

Adherence to gowning, cleaning, and entry protocols.

Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical safety standards.

Familiarity with fire safety and emergency shutdown procedures.

Compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.
5. Communication Skills
