Job Description
- Set up and operate CNC machines (lathe, milling, etc.) to perform machining operations.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job orders.
- Monitor machine operation and adjust feeds/speeds to ensure accurate dimensions and quality.
- Perform regular inspections using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Maintain equipment and perform routine maintenance as required.
- Record the production data and complete inspection reports.
- Follow all the safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machine Setup and Operation:
-
Set up and operate CNC machines such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, routers, and turning centers based on production schedules.

Load raw materials (metal, plastic, wood, or composite) into machines and secure them properly using clamps, fixtures, or vises.

Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machine setup, cutting tools, and materials required.

Select appropriate tools, install fixtures, and input CNC programs using the control panel (FANUC, Siemens, Haas, etc.).
2. Monitoring and Quality Control:
-
Monitor machine operations to ensure parts are machined according to specifications and tolerances.

Conduct first-article and in-process inspections using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).

Check the dimensions and surface finishes of completed parts and adjust machine settings to correct deviations.
-
Identify defective parts or out-of-tolerance conditions and report them to the supervisor or quality control department.
3. Program Execution and Adjustments:
-
Load and execute CNC programs provided by the CNC programmer or engineering team.
-
Make minor edits to CNC programs directly at the machine to improve part quality or accommodate changes in material behavior.

Ensure proper tool offsets, feeds, and speeds for optimal machining performance and tool life.

Replace worn or broken tools as needed and re-calibrate offsets accordingly.
4. Maintenance and Housekeeping:
-
Perform routine maintenance of machines, such as lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of coolant levels and filters.

Keep workstations clean, organized, and free from hazards by following 5S and housekeeping standards.

Report any machine malfunctions, safety hazards, or tooling issues to the maintenance team or supervisor promptly.
5. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of production quantities, downtime, inspection results, and machine parameters.

Complete daily shift reports, inspection logs, and quality control forms.

Follow established SOPs, work instructions, and safety protocols during all machining operations.
6. Team Collaboration and Communication:

Coordinate with supervisors, quality inspectors, and fellow operators to ensure smooth workflow and production targets.

Provide feedback on process improvements, tooling needs, and programming errors to engineering or programming departments.

Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen, Lean, 5S).
